Awesome video Jon, could you provide some insight as to why you chose the 1130S over the 1300S or perhaps the 1075S? Seems quite a bit of pumping, would the 1300S or 1075R made life easier here? Curious for those of us with really marginal conditions. I was thinking of a quiver of 1300S/1075R and 980S for an 85kg rider, spent a lot of time downwinding (1 Year), but really confused sea state and poor energy where I live (wind changes angle consistently and poor Bathymetry). I use F-One Eagle 1290 and 1500SS. 1290(AR9.5) battles with high stall speed and 1500SS gets up easy but battles to keep up and not enough glide (AR8). Looking at a change to Code.

PS. Loved the shots and view into the sunset with the choice of suitable chill music, and awesome learnings on bump reading. Particularly like the panning to front shots at around 3:25 - 4:00 giving a good view of the bump size

This is an easy one to answer - I don't have a 1300S or 1075R. However, I don't think they would have made it easier for me as I like to have a foil faster than the bumps for turns (to just sit on the bumps and go straighter the 1300S probably would have been better). I actually would have taken the 980S for this had I not just received the 1130S for the demo quiver. Also for short period low energy lake bumps I never use the R series really, I like the ability to turn in the tight bumps and they move so slowly you don't need the added speed of the R series. Some of the pumping I'm doing isn't needed, but its all fairly low effort, I'm also just feeling out the foil for when people ask about it. At your weight and level I would say the 1300S would be a good call. I think the 1300S is a lot more user friendly with a slightly better low end, and whilst the 1075R has masses of glide, the S series is a bit nicer to manoeuvre which helps a lot in mixed up conditions. The 1300S and the 980S would complement each other well. But if you are primarily downwinding the 860R instead of the 980S could be nice for the bigger days. Whilst they have similar speed ranges, the 860R gives a bit more glide and carry which can help you on bigger days with faster swells. If you are concerned that thats a big jump the 960R would also be a good one. Range wise my rule of thumb is roughly a one size offset to match, so 1075R/1300S - 960R/1130S - 860R / 980S etc. The main differences being the S series turn nicer, the R have more glide. If they both have a min speed of 1 and max of 10 (roughly the same for both R and S equivalent sizes), for DW I find the S series like to sit somewhere between 4 and 5, whereas the R can hold between 5-7 depending on the bumps and swell. So R just if a bit more efficient. Hope that helps?

Nice video! how do you like the 960r?
@jon_mann6 ай бұрын
@@oskarhansson3744 thanks! I really like it but it's on the big side for prone. It's predominantly my light wind foil when I sup DW or for flatwater paddle up work. The range is huge. I took it just to be sure I would make the finish as the wind was light and I wasn't sure how good the bumps would be. Probably could have used the 770R even, but would have been more work.

Thanks, ok I’m 78 kg using 1300s/980s in lake and mostly light wind conditions 8-14 knots. Been looking at the r series and been recommended the 960r to ad to my current setup for more glide and speed. I wing a lot no paddle ups.
