Most helpful. I am at stage 3/4 Cirrhosis having already had an hepatocellular carcinoma which was successfully removed. At this moment in time I don’t have all of the symptoms of a failing liver but need to protect it as much as I possibly can. Cancer can return which is another issue, found this video very helpful. I have low vitamin D levels which I can now understand and having my bile duct removed due to the OP I now understand bile a bit more. Will investigate more on what you have said to improve my diet, must admit though I have slipped a little since the OP last October.

I have EPI my gastroenterologist says. I am not diabetic.and I dont have cancer. It is also listed as a form of pancreatitis. I have to use enzyme daily, for life. Can Agent orange cause this and without causing cancer? Pancreas does not work. It took over a year to get correct information. I’m the ER one dr there diagnosed IBS, another was callled it celiac disease.

I have EPI and none of my doctors know why. I was diagnosed while i was having fatty diarrhea 40+ times a day. My elastase was 82. Essentially I had a severe presentation and developed severe complications from it. I am J tube reliant and relisorb is incredibly important and crucial for my survival. I am glad to be alive.

Curious to why run a Vitamin A test? Is this common? I was under the impression that given the body stores vit A in the liver which inhibits the serum level from effectively reflecting a vit A deficiency?
@DietitiansinNutritionSupport
@DietitiansinNutritionSupport 18 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for your question. Per ASPEN Adult Nutrition Support Core Curriculum (2017), evaluating Vitamin A stores annually on a patient requiring long term TPN is appropriate. Vitamin A status should be measured by serum retinol and keep in mind that measuring CRP and retinol binding protein can also support lab value interpretation as increased inflammation can decrease serum/plasma retinol concentrations.

incorrect technique - would not remove stylet until you are pulling the string on the opposite site. Furthermore, most places its out of scope for dieticians to be teaching this or doing on patients. It is a nursing/medical procedure.

Thank you for watching this video. The technique for placing a nasal securement device (“bridle”) can vary slightly by clinician and patient anatomy. For RDNs or any other clinician placing a bedside feeding tube, securing the tube with tape or a bridle is part of the procedure and included in institutional policies. More information on this topic can be found on the ASPEN practice tool, “Feeding Tube Placement Resources for Dietitians” and the Academy and ASPEN Revised 2021 SOP and SOPP for RDNs (Competent, Proficient, and Expert) in Nutrition Support linked below. www.nutritioncare.org/uploadedFiles/Documents/Guidelines_and_Clinical_Resources/EN_Resources/Feeding-Tube-Placement-Resources.pdf www.jandonline.org/action/showPdf?pii=S2212-2672%2821%2900379-8

I’ve had chronic pancreatitis and EPI for 10+ years, and have a different issue lately: weight loss, little appetite, and muscle wasting (sarcopenia-Thanks for the new word!). My Gastro APRN says take the enzymes, but no other advice. Would a nutrition consult help? The RD’s in my area have no experience with EPI, so I’m also asking where do I look, please.

Thank you for your question. If you are experiencing new nutrition related problems, you may benefit from speaking to a Registered Dietitians Nutritionist. If there are none in your area who are experienced with EPI, telehealth consultations may be an option to consider. To search for nutrition experts by topic or area (including telehealth), you might find this search page from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics helpful: www.eatright.org/find-a-nutrition-expert. Experts listed on this search tool also include short biographies where you can identify a provider who can best serve your needs.

What is too much protein and what about protein drinks ?
@DietitiansinNutritionSupport
@DietitiansinNutritionSupport 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your question. While specific protein recommendations should be individualized, a generally safe protein intake range would be around 1.2-1.5 g/kg. Yes, protein drinks can be utilized to achieve protein goals, if needed.

can stem cell theraphy help?
@bm421
@bm421 2 ай бұрын
I’ve been wondering the same. I read a study that MSCs helped pancreatitis. Mission cure is currently doing trials where they take stem cells from bone marrow from the patient, grow more stem cells, then inject back into the patient. I worry that IV stem cell therapy will just get trapped in the lungs and be a waste of money that I don’t have. EPI sucks though.

He has an in depth article on Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency written with Dr. Struyvenberg that anyone with EPI should read. Another really helpful resource was the book Primal Pancreas.

I have a question ! Recently diagnosed but instead of losing weight I blew up and need to start losing weight -the bloating is real! Any suggestions ?
@DietitiansinNutritionSupport
@DietitiansinNutritionSupport 3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question. If you have started on PERT, you may experience weight gain as the enzymes are formulated to help the body break down and absorb nutrients. Some common side effects of PERT include bloating or other GI distress. Changes such as limiting carbonated beverage intake, not drinking from a straw or chewing gum and eating smaller, more frequent meals along with limiting gas-producing foods may help reduce bloating. It would be encouraged to speak with a registered dietitian nutritionist about your concerns to get personalized nutrition guidance.
