My baby has intense gas pains. He's also teething. It is impossible to sleep at night. I definitely shake my leg fast. Even this is not enough. For example, he loves swinging in a blanket (because he feels empty). Could what I do do any harm? Frankly, I was a little worried when I watched the videos...

Why are y'all calling this a syndrome? A syndrome is a sickness or disease that attack the body from within. Shaken baby is called child abuse

I had a very abusive mother and I was discovered as having high neck complications as an adult. A three hour neurosurgeon's treatment to prevent total paralysis. More injuries were too deep for surgery. Wouldn't it be horrible if your adult child was aware that their disabilities were caused by you as a baby?

Another way to soothe a baby without shaking him/her, is to offer a pacifier for them to suck on. Sucking is helpful for colic.

Or sometimes parents are tired and need a break so they lose it. If all you hear screaming and crying and nothing you do quiets it, there is a breaking point. the best way to prevent it is to tell parents they're not bad for stepping outside to allow themselves to calm down while the baby cries.
@wolfgang10974 жыл бұрын
@@justicemartinez3478 Agreed. It's so painful and disturbing to hear about small children being shaken one at a time every now and then. It is 100% preventable. Crying never harms a child, but shaking will. Even though I don't really like kids, I would never shake a baby. People who do that to babies should get the electric chair whether the victim dies or survives.

We need more funding and emphasis on perinatal mental health. Current support is nowhere near adequate. GPs need better training to spot signs of worrying postpartum psychiatric problems.

So-called "Shaken Baby Syndrome" aka "Inflicted Traumatic Brain Injury", may not have been caused by a trauma at all (intentional or deliberate). It may have been caused by a Deficiency of Vitamin C, as found by Dr. Archie Kalokerinos an eminent Australian doctor, a colleague and friend of world-reknowned twice Nobel Prize winner Dr. Linus Pauling.
@ashleyryan15 жыл бұрын
While you may be right, it isn't "so-called." Just because there are various ways something can occur, it doesn't invalidate the other ways. Someone CAN shake a baby and cause harm.
@ultrasonicrebel5 жыл бұрын
This is misleading. There is no convincing evidence that vitamin C deficiency can cause shaken baby syndrome.

Shaken baby syndrome is an urban legend, shaking babies is fine. More than likely the baby died from an unexplained failure to thrive. Very sad, but very harmful to perpetuate the shaken baby syndrome legend.

+StarlightEater As the old saying goes : It will never happen to me. I hope that that statement will follow you all your life. But believe me from someone who has had to live thru this. When this simple act happens to someone you love will change your life as you know it forever. Never again will life be simple, carefree, or innocent again. Even the simplest thing aren't easy again. And the result of this act on a baby will follow them the rest of there life. Don't ever think that shaking a baby is alright, there brains are so fragile. Take a break, lay them down somewhere safe and walk away

I'm not sure how convicting innocent parents of murder makes anyone "lucky," especially the deceased infant. Victimizing grieving parents should be criminal.

I think Dr Case has the years of study and experience to report the facts as they exist.. From what I have googed on Dr. Case her life's work has been to identify criminal intent in violent deaths of poor infants.........We are lucky to have her in our area.......what the uk does is their business
@UncleHoot13 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, many doctors, like Mary Case, see a homicide where it does not exist. Both the UK and Canada have recognized this problem and have taken efforts to reverse some of the damage of the wrongful convictions. But in the US, the number of convictions has doubled in the past 5 years, with one top infant neuropathologist, Dr. Waney Squier, warning that at least half of those convicted are actually innocent.
