The guy didn't have to kill it. Sad. He points the gun at it and talks to it saying, " Back, back " as if it understands frickin' English and knows what a firearm is. Wasted time letting it think about attacking him and getting closer, saying, " No, no ". Dumb. All he had to do was shoot a warning shot and the thing would have ran off from the sound of the shot. ⁠have u ever been in the wild alone with an animal that weighs more then you? Your instincts kick in, lets say he shot off a warning shot and it pounces? U have a second to make that decision. Its you or him. Wild animals are dangerous. The thing had already shown that it was attacking. Just the fact that it was going after him is immediately a red flag. These cougars don’t usually do these type of things. Cats are extremely skittish BUT if they feel threatened in any way they will do anything to protect themselves you are in their territory! So if u knew anything about these animals u would know that as soon he makes contact and it doesn’t run away from the man and starts following him then that means its going to attack and it feels threatened by him. He had no choice but to fire off his gun and kill it. U only have 1 move here and u better make the right one. Shoot off a round in the sky spook it and it gets more mad? Try to scare it and it doesnt leave? When your life is on the line your thinking right away “what if”. Its my life or your life. With spilt seconds of making the right decision theres no thinking hey im gonna try to scare it off when its trying to kill me! Your instincts tells u to make the right move cause one wrong move and your dead in a moment. It can jump and attack and do things u couldn’t imagine. These things can climb trees within seconds imagine the damage it could of done to him. He made the right choice. The only thing I could think of he could do otherwise was to pop off a warning shot but who knows whether that would’ve meant anything to the lion, or whether he already did prior to the short that we saw.
