In the Philippines, this was cover by a Ska Band called "Put3ska" and retitled to My Boy Lollipop.

I like the band, and the singer I know from Michelin Tyres. He even looks like my Kwqk Flt chief mechanic who serviced my Civic. Greetings from the atlantis from Holland; Flevoland

What I find sad about Millie Small is her ending. Broke and destitute and living in a hostel with a child. Where did all her money go? Was she not counselled? Where was the mentor?

@danisblack "stole" is a strong word. It's a great cover version.
@janefelix38219 ай бұрын
He did not steal it. Anyway, Millie Small wasn't the original singer of this tune, she was actually the third. It was just that her rendition was the first to make it big, #2 in the USA, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and number 1 in Ireland. It was originally written and released in 1956 by the Cadillacs and since they were a male group, its original title was "My Girl Lollipop". It didn't go anywhere so they sold the rights and someone found a 16-year-old girl, Barbie Gaye, to cut it. It did ok in NYC, where Gaye lived and since it was now sung by a female, they changed the title to "My Boy Lollipop". Since it didn't go very far, it was sold to a Jamaican recording studio in 1959, which changed the beat to Jamaican style and then recorded it with Millie Small in 1964.

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"
