I just finished reading this book about 30 minutes ago and I think it deserves very widespread recognition. It could split off into many stories but gives kind of a whistlestop of very intense life events. Highly recommended.

Hello both, and thank you. I've just written a multi-faceted piece about lichen, as I do, for the first time, and wondered if anyone had written any poetry about it... Via a feed on a British poetry website, I found Forrest's name, and a short quote, which fascinated me. So after a little bit more digging, I found this interview/reading. How amazing, and how is it that this only seems to have been viewed 31 times so far? I've included a link this KZbin now, which I hope you're happy with, and again, thank you Forrest for your poems, and your emotionally charged reading of them, as well as some of the insights into lichen, the natural world and life, which underpin your writing. Thank you too to Jane for hosting this so well, and for the thoughtful questions and responses. I learned so much from this, and will get on and buy Forrest's books, to delve a little deeper, Best wishes from Wales, Julian.
This is wonderful. Thank you Litquake! What you do is very deeply appreciated.

I just ordered a copy. I can't wait to read this comprehensive work on Crane. This is monumental! I would love to hear the author's thoughts on Ambrose Bierce as well.

The start of The Five White Mice: Freddie was mixing a cocktail. His hand with the long spoon was whirling swiftly, and the ice in the glass hummed and rattled like a cheap watch. Over by the window, a gambler, a millionaire, a railway conductor, and the agent of a vast American syndicate were playing seven-up. Freddie surveyed them with the ironical glance of a man who is mixing a cocktail.

It is criminal how underappreciated this woman is, despite her getting pretty great recognition as far as modern literary fiction goes. But this book, and the truly unique prose and structure she employs, is absolutely visionary. I never thought I'd read something by a modern author that could capture the raw horror and tension and command of prose that I found only in Cormac McCarthy's novels and some of Faulkner's. She is a master in the full sense of the word. If there is any justice left in the art industry, she will be recognized as a new great, a living master whose work will last. I've honestly never read anything quite so alive, so infectious, both beautiful and demonic, evil and cathartic. It's like Faulker meets Ari Aster meets a latina perspective that makes her wholly unique and unequaled

WTF! Andre Bella is NOT a Clarion Alley consultant ... Amanda Coggin is NOT a Clarion Alley Founder ... it's super disrespectful to those of us in the community who have put years ... decades into maintaining and organizing the Alley and to see folks who show up for a day to do Litquake to be listed as consultants and founders when we haven't even heard of them ...
