God damn! The Steal of the Millenia. Wiz front office got some secret magics!! "The Washington Wizards and Portland Trail Blazers kicked off the trade festivities on draft night when they struck an agreement on a deal that sent Deni Avdija to the pacific northwest in exchange for the 14th overall pick of the 2024 NBA Draft (Carlton Carrington), Malcolm Brogdon, 2029 first-round pick, and two second round picks. You may think I'm crazy but trade one of those picks and one of the guards to Minnesota for Diamond Miller and pick up Ashley Owusu in free agency ( I think she's going to be playing overseas this year but sat out didn't enter her name in this year's draft to fully recover from a nagging injury). Owusu and Austin already have great comradere/chemistry. Ashley has good size, is a creative passer scorer and ball handler. Plus you can also run offense through her in the post with her back to the basket (being a scorer or a passer, hitting shooters on opposite outs as well as cutters coming down the lane).

I think Julie Vanloo is a good player, but she's a European player playing a European style of point guard. In the WNBA it is imperitive that the point be able to grab the paint on drives constantly and create shots for others, plus be athletic enough to finish at the rim.
@craigstringer12657 ай бұрын
Chennedy Carter's speed, athleticism and explosion to the rack in the WNBA is similar to what Allen Iverson's was in the NBA when he played. It's unstoundiing!

On the defensive side of the ball, many times we're sideways like that play with Melbourne on Ryne Howard at the hash. Although the referee called Howard for the foul because they said she led with the shoulder, that should've and could've went Atlanta's way. The Mystics offense is not getting us any separation. I think we need to change things up with the line ups and go with a more defensive focal point, play DiDi Richards and Shatorie Walker-Kimborough more with Aerial Atkins more to try to create turnovers. Run the point guard by committee. Jade Melbourne, Julie Vanloo and Karlie Samuelson are a little slower and have to be covered/hidden on defense through help. Offense is not our calling card right now, we have to bone up on defense and manufacture points through turnovers and hopefully that turns into wins. For the rest of the season teams will do what Atlanta did to us which is put their best perimeter (In this case Alisha Gray) defender on our point guard (Julie Vanloo)to keep her out of the paint and stagnate our offense.
@craigstringer12657 ай бұрын
With Slim out, Aerial Atkins is the only other guard who has shown the ability to consistently grab the paint with her dribble penetration. At critical junctures in the games so far the offensive sets sometimes look like mumbo jumbo, because opposing defenses are loading up to Aerial's side. The player who I think has the ability to do more which could translate into some wins is DiDi Richards, but she's a new player with the Mystics with a different role than the one she had when she was with the New York Liberty under Head Coach Walt Hopkins. With the Liberty she was strictly being molded by Coach Hopkins along with current Mystics Assistant Coach Shelley Patterson to play a 3 and D role and in Washington it seems like Coach Thibault and his staff want her play a backup point, plus be a defensive stopper and knock down the occasional three. However this transition may take some time because not only Richards but this entire team is in transition as well; there's no Elena Della Don to command the double team and make life easier for everyone on the floor. This whole team is learning & adjusting to new roles on the fly, and through the fire of a WNBA season. We have to be patient!
@craigstringer12658 ай бұрын
DiDi Richards reuniting with Coach Shelley Patterson is a great look for her career and for the flexibility she can give the Mystics both defensively and offensively as a another ball handler/playmaker ( Both were with the Liberty in Richards rookie year 2021 when DiDi made the all rookie team ).

We gotta stop with this Wes never had a decent roster stuff. That roster he started with was decent but it yielded the same results. I have more respect for coaches that do more with a weaker roster than the ones that only succeed with the best
