i just battens and insulated a wall. the gaps around the insulation and bottom i filled with no nonsense sticky foam adhesive to secure boards better. is plasterboard adhesive foam ok to fill holes around or near hot water pipes/gas pipes or should i be used a different expanding foam?

Nice job. I did the same with my cold front room 8m solid exterior wall from 1850. No damp but cold. Used the DPC battens with top and bottom noggins to infill. Probably over kill but its solid. Used 3 or 4 T30 concrete screws in each 25x50 batten which are 2.6m high. Then 50mm PIR insulation, boarded and skimmed. Used 80mm PB screws. A 12.5mm gap at the bottom for air. Good idea with putting a hole at the top ceiling for more air which i did not do. Could do from above room in worst case scenario! The next room i'll just use 3 battens as you have here which is quicker! PS what spirit level is that?

@Surgenorplastering17 күн бұрын
If you can get into the habit of wearing it all the time, that's good, but you can get away with just wearing it while doing really dusty stuff like mixing, or just pick plumbing. A lot more money and no masks. 😭
@newpersonatuni17 күн бұрын
@@Surgenorplastering it's the same for painting and decorating, you should wear one all the time.

Great job, but I’d be prepared to bet handsome money on those slopey bits of ceiling are not insulated. Shame as they’ll loose the heat through them. I wonder if ceiling insulation would be more effective than the walls.
@Surgenorplastering11 күн бұрын
Yea there is an acess hatch in the hall and the people did have the roofspace insulated.
@LeeDrummond-pu9sv19 күн бұрын
Dosnt need to look perfect as you are putting it on. That’s where people go wrong, they keep playing with it with the trowel. As long as it’s properly full the straight edge will sort it out! Or you can keep adding to the low bits when you are ruling it but that takes longer.

Good evening A question please? I am going to try to insulate my internal external walls. My 1st thought is to use plaster boards , insulation and wooden batons Can you tell me where do I put the vapor barrier On the walls before I put the wooden batons on Or On the batons after I put in the insulation and before I put the plasterboard on? Am in a small house in the countryside in Northern Italy and a bit away from Belfast!!! Regards
@Surgenorplastering20 күн бұрын
Hey, first off, thanks for watching. I'm not sure about Italy, but in Belfast, we have insulated plasterboard that already has a vapor barrier fitted, so use them if you can get them. If not, the vapor barrier needs to be behind the insulation. Be sure to fit a strip of DPC to the back of the battens so they don't rot. My next four videos are on this topic, so keep an eye out.

I don't water it down, buddy, but I know a lot of people do. I like as little suction on a wall as possible. Also, the customer is paying for it, so there's no need.

plaster? here in canada they used and made plaster walls with horse hair in them way back in the 19's Now here we have these sheets called DRYWALL I noticed living in a apartment that has plaster walls, as soon as you try putting a nail in to hang anything it start chipping Drywall is so much better you don't have a bucket of stuff all you need to have is a drill, some wood screws and well maybe a bit of puddy to cover the screw holes Why do they still use and make plaster in America? if that's where this is filmed?
@JJPlastering27 күн бұрын
Nope, filmed in Northern Ireland. Drywall, which we call plasterboard is used throughout the British Isles and in the island of Ireland, and no doubt in the rest of europe. We do use plasterboard, but typically skim over it to provide a better more durable finish. Commercial buildings tend to have drywall without plaster, only filling the joints with jointing compound. Its an inferioir finish but who cares if its only in an office... The plaster is gypsum based, not lime which is found in 100 year old buildings which would have had horse hair in it like you mentioned. These days odern houses tend to be plasterboarded whereas prior to this the walls will be solid either with or without a cavity in the walls. This video has plastered walls I suspect with a cavity.
@ke161co28 күн бұрын
what would have been in the original lathe and plaster? just lime sand and horse hair?
