I miss the days when 5 people could get creative, and get good at the game, and basically make it to worlds. That was the high-point of esports. Then it got to where people were getting replaced, retiring because they were like 22 or 23 or w/e age (I forget, but really young), and there's all these companies and other shit involved in it all. Back when c9 started they just played well and climbed and just made it. I'm sure they had a manager or w/e but overall it was just them and their talent. Now it's all just a big corporate mess and all these asian countries are like treating kids like shit making them play ridiculous hours and live unhealthy lifestyles. Money really brings out the worst in our species.

I get that you're nostalgia clowning but there was a ridiculous amount of abuse and exploitation in early esports, and I'd even argue there was more abuse before corporations and sponsors got involved in western esports because back then they didn't even have to be all that discrete about it. The abuse you mention in eastern esports is also not a particularly out of the ordinary for Asia, but I'm not as familiar with how it compares to standard working conditions in other fields as I am with western esports and work culture. Western esports was and in many ways still is still a shitfest relative to working cultures and conditions in other western industries.
@waynefilkins8394 Жыл бұрын
@@ab3240 I'm referring to how c9 was just 5 players (it was originally player founded) who climbed and went to the world championship. Now it's like pro football where there's all these other people involved and if u don't perform how they want u get replaced, etc. Pretty much what I said. Which is all true. Idk why people always disagree online. You made me second guess myself so I looked it up and before they were acquired c9 was player-owned.
@ab3240 Жыл бұрын
@@waynefilkins8394 Wasn't obvious to me you were referring to C9 given you did not mention that org specifically by name, and given your very broad commentary on Asian orgs I interpreted your comment broadly with respect to American orgs as well. I am not intimately familiar with C9's history, but I don't think them being player owned somehow exonerates them. TSM was also founded by its players, as were many of the older orgs. And Esports as an industry was not very pretty back in the day. You also chose to criticize Asian orgs for something American orgs are equally guilty of in most ways. You are a nostalgia clown. Players getting replaced and corperate red tape is literally good for the league. It's what prevents players from being subjected to shitty working conditions. State Farm probably does not want to advertise on a broadcast of a pro esport where the players work in the equivalent of a sweatshop. League may be a worse spectator Esport, but that's not because we don't have Meteos saying "cumshot" in comms anymore.

@X5J9 In a nicer way, I think people are just confused as to why you said that. From a lack of context, people assume this has nothing to do with OP's comment. There's nothing wrong with telling a story, but it might be worth it to share that story amongst other yu-gi-oh fans instead of a league comment section. That way, more people will respond to you in a way you're probably seeking. Hope that helps.
