A word about the Greek verb ginomai in 2 Thessalonians 2: it has a very broad use which is not confined to the idea of something "becoming" or being "birthed". In the context of 2 Thess 2:7 it is a verb for something going from the midst of something to outside it. That is why the translators unanimously translate it as some variation of "be taken out of the way", or "until he is removed." The Greek preposition is "out of" which then clarifies the meaning in the context of the passage. There is one restraining until he be taken out of (the way) and then the antichrist will be revealed, brought to light, uncovered. The one restraining is ambiguous here and can be interpreted in multiple ways, but I think it is most likely referring to the Holy Spirit's unique office of restraining evil. It could also be referring to the Church but the difficulty with that intepretation is that Paul is saying in this context that the day of Christ (when the Church reaches the glorious completion of her salvation when Jesus returns) will not come until the man of lawlessness is revealed, so I think that reading would be self-contradictory. Certainly it is not referring to antichrist becoming in the midst of one restraining...

Profoundly life changing teaching…The Lord has been dealing with me regarding this subject a lot this past year. It’s been wonderfully painful and fruitful. I love when God corrects and instructs us.
