I just found this video. I have lemon balm growing in my herb garden. Should it taste like furniture polish?🤔 If so I'm thinking I need to get it gone because that is a flavor I don't want to have to get used to.

Awesome idea! Do you limit seeds that are specific to your area to make it easier for your patrons? 😊
@ModernGardener2 ай бұрын
Glad you liked this Short. We don’t manage the Salt Lake Public Library Seed Library, but we do know they encourage seed library patrons to donate their own seeds. All the seeds in the seed library can be grown successfully in Utah’s regions and zones. Hope this helps answer your question.
@ModernGardener2 ай бұрын
We don’t manage the library’s seed catalog, but all the seeds they have in the catalog will grow here. They also encourage gardeners to donate their own seeds from their garden to keep it local. If you reach out to the Salt Lake City Library they can get you more info on the Seed Library!

Why would you empty and clean out a natural pond every year? The entire concept of a natural pond is that it gets cleaner the longer it runs. Cleaning it out every year is like starting the filtration system completely over so that it never gets a chance to do what a natural pond is supposed to do which is naturally filter itself until it becomes cleaner, healthier and safer than a pond with chemicals in it.

Take some cuttings in the fall and root them inside on a window sill. You can take more cuttings and root them (or use fresh) through the winter and then plant it out in the spring.

Spitting out the bitter was so real. Loved it. Do you have advice for a stomach that gets aches from too much warm tea? I like mild flovors and must drink a lot of hot tea for my asthma & lung issues, but then I have to take a day off from the mild pain in my stomach. Thank you. Happy New Year.
@ModernGardener4 ай бұрын
Hi FranLu! Thanks for reaching out. I really like growing lemon grass and soaking it in hot water I warm on the stove, then I’ll stain it into a pitcher and drink that cold from the fridge, or room temperature. I’ll do the same thing with my mints and other herbal teas. I also like making my own herbal mixes! And then also drink them cold or at room temp. Also, try just soaking the herbs in room temperature water for a whole day, rather than steeping them in hot, hot water. With some herbs, a room temperature soak taste different then when they’re steeped in hot water. I wonder if that will help your stomach. Are you also using good, purified water? Hope this helps!

I’ve plant or delosperma could be ground cover as it’s a succulent. If your aloes, agaves, cactus etc they could be planted densely.

Good point! There are some pretty high altitude cacti that could do well in a zone 6-7. We’ll have to look into those.

How long do the plants stay looking healthy in a very dry climate and a heated home?
@ModernGardener5 ай бұрын
That’s a good question! Unfortunately the expert in this video isn’t available for comment. Our guess is if your air plant and succulent is healthy before you use it in the wrapping maybe a week at the most, so if your using those “live” elements it would be best to do that type of decorating right before you give the package and have the recipient give it some water or put it in soil soon afterwards!

Thank you! How many years does a high bush blueberry produce? Do you have to transplant it to larger containers as it gets bigger? Can huckleberries be grown in an Utah County garden?
@ModernGardener5 ай бұрын
We’re not blueberry experts, but as long as the bush is healthy it should continue to produce for many years. Yes, you would need to transplant it to a bigger pot and continue to amend the soil. There are some Utah gardeners who are successfully growing blueberries in Salt Lake county in the ground. If you’re on FB you could try reaching out to some of the gardening groups like Utah Gardeners or Utah Gardening experts. We don’t know if huckleberries can be grown here!
