Regarding the terrible news about Toru Furya I have this to say. It just takes time. Regardless of what you believe one way or the other, Michael Jackson is associated in people's minds with some pretty awful things, but people still love and enjoy his music. Whether it is this song or his voice acting in the anime, in time we will be able to seperate Toru Furuya's vile actions from the work that he did as Mamoru Chiba. Right now it is just a bit too raw because it has been not even 2 months since the news. We have to remember an actor's job is to convincingly pretend to be someone else. Furuya might be a bad person, but that doesn't mean anything to who Mamoru as a character is or what he, or this song, might mean to us. The character was ultimately the product of many people, Furuya's performance, the director, the animators, the script writer's, etc. He is more than the sum of his parts is what I am saying. Furuya was important in defining the character, but the character didn't begin or end with him, let alone who Furuya was as a person. Plus, I have always felt that whether it is writing or performing a character, if they are well defined there comes a point where they in a sense take on a life of their own and both the writer or actor are in a sense 'channelling' that character moreso than putting themselves into them. Finally, if this helps, we don't know if, in the 90s when he played Mamoru, Furuya was the same awful person he was during the years he was abusing that poor woman. He may well have become a monster later on. So...give it time. It might never be exactly the same as it was, but there will come a point where we can all happily listen to this song, enjoy it, and let it take us back to the good times.
