I am sorry but with all due respect I don't consider Lionel Messi the greatest of all time, and my argument for Messi fans is that he doesn't have enough world titles to back up that claim. Keep in mind it took him 5 world cups just to win his first world title in Qatar. Compare to others who most where MVP's won back to back Fifa world cups there is atleast 21 world champions among the 437 something which have won world titles who would rank higher then Lionel Messi. Among the legends the one with the strongest claim to the title to this very day is the deceased legend PELE of Brazil. Pele record is 3-1 in Fifa world cups while Lionel Messi is 1-4 and Cristiano Ronaldo is 0-5. Messi in reality just comparing to the other MVP and some other world champions who been elite players on the national team Messi really would rank overall right now 7th out of 10 in the top ten at most. Cristiano Ronaldo barely makes it to the 10th spot not have been world champion with Portugal. It's not about eras, because every era has its pros and cons. It's about domination. It's not just a question of talent, or lucky circumstances. It's a coincidence that the era with the most finals played repeatedly by Argentina with Messi on the pitch...from 2005 to 2024 is an outrage, 15!!! 15 competitions in which he took part (it would be 16, but I don't count the World Cup in Germany, Leo was a benchwarmer) I'm talking about when he was a starter...So 15 competitions and 10 finals for first/second place and 2 for third/fourth, so 12 times out of 15 Argentina with him on the pitch got to play a final...this is a fact that cannot be dismissed...to the usual nonsense of "And but he played with the phenomena!" No! Because with the national team Messi has changed teammates, coaches, modules, the only common denominator has always been him! Never in the history of this game has there been such a domination I speak of both clubs and national teams, in the past it has already happened but for example Di Stefano (club) or Ronaldo phenomenon (national team) but no one has ever done both things together for 20 years! Diego had more talent it's true, it's impossible to deny it... but now it's not enough anymore, he played in a different era than Leo, but as I've already written, all eras have pros and cons. Messi would've been a World Cup winner in 2014 if there was an actual real bias in favor of Argentina, because Germany would've either had a player sent off early or Argentina would've been granted a penalty when Neuer almost killed Higuain. Similarly, go watch the games against Chile in 2015 and 2016 Copa Americas, when Messi gets sent off because Medel was picking a fight with him (Messi literally stands there as Medel tries to knock him down by chest bumping him, and both get red carded even though Messi literally doesn't touch him) or the player who brutally kneed him in the stomach would've been sent off for that incredibly nasty foul.
