That really is excellent. Such fluidity and swing. You must have ears like oscilloscopes? You also have a cool guitar. What make is that?

Great playing on this fantastic Bill Jennings tune from one of his Solo LP's. That Gibson and Bigsby recreation PU nail the tone as well.

Very cool! How do you have that Modele B set up? Is that a battery pack and your own mounting?
@markvandrogen13428 ай бұрын
Wonderful sound! I would imagine you needed to cut the braces when making the cut to install the pickup. Did you restore somehow the braces?
@juanhernandezmusic8 ай бұрын
Yes the braces were reinforced. It's hard to describe but if you message me on IG i can try to take a photo for you

That pickup sounds great. Is that a floating model or routed in the guitar?
@juanhernandezmusic Жыл бұрын
Routed. This is an Epiphone Zephyr deluxe, the electric plywood version. Used to belong to TK who made and installed the pickups himself. I’m so lucky to have it.

Nice comparison! Think I might like the alnico Nashville or Rosebud for my thing, but I'm not a jazzer. Regardless, thanks for the likely expensive, certainly time consuming, demo.

I am so happy to discover your channel and your tributes to the incredible Oscar Moore. His playing and tone have haunted me since I was 5 years old and heard The Chrismas Song and would have been my first realization of what a guitar is. I have to ask about the L5 CC. Is it an original prewar guitar and pickup? It is his sound personified. Well done.
@juanhernandezmusic Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The guitar is an ES 150 from 1940, all original. It's smaller than the L5 CC. Oscar played one of these for a period before getting the L5.

Eastman sounds really good! Thanks for the demonstration. I have to say though, the style you choose to perform... it's nice and everything, but that's not what I would use acoustic archtop for. Not primarily anyway. I was waiting for swing strumming styles, purely rhythm or chord solos, but strumming! I think that's what archtops were invented for.
@juanhernandezmusic Жыл бұрын
I've recorded other comparisons that are just rhythm comping and chord melody. These were just some tunes that were on my mind. But in general, I don't share the same narrow view of what music is allowed on an archtop.
@impishd3013 Жыл бұрын
My fave was #3, the '37 L7, followed by the '34. The Eastman was good but a cut below the others to my ears. It has a characteristic thinness of tone--which might improve after a few decades to mellow. Hard to compete with a guitar with an 80+ year head start! Also: Fantastic video! Great comparison, really nice playing! Cheers.

I must really, really be attuned to the Epiphone sound because against all my preconceptions I prefer the Triumph by far! Excellent comparison!
@juanhernandezmusic2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes I also preferred the Epiphone in this context.
@Skipster18 Жыл бұрын
I agree. The Triumph seems warmer in the mid-range with a sound that seems more integrated across the sonic spectrum. I've compared my Epiphone Spartan with a Gibson L-4 and an L-7 and found the same thing. The Gibsons sounded nice enough but sounded to treble-y vs. the Epiphone.
