His playing and tone have haunted me since I was 5 years old and heard The Chrismas Song and would have been my first realization of what a guitar is. I have to ask about the L5 CC. Eastman sounds really good! Thanks for the demonstration. I have to say though, the style you choose to perform... it's nice and everything, but that's not what I would use acoustic archtop for. Not primarily anyway. I was waiting for swing strumming styles, purely rhythm or chord solos, but strumming! I think that's what archtops were invented for.

My fave was #3, the '37 L7, followed by the '34. The Eastman was good but a cut below the others to my ears. It has a characteristic thinness of tone--which might improve after a few decades to mellow. Hard to compete with a guitar with an 80+ year head start! Also: Fantastic video! Great comparison, really nice playing! Cheers.

Excel & Broadway are very close, L5 has woodier tone. They all sound great! Thanks for sharing this comparison...great playing!
