3:40 this is because our brains are programmed to react to things we know without noticing it. Because you subconsciously knew what you programmed, and because you have muscle memory from the games you based it off of like Granny, your brain told you to drop items before picking them up. It's part of the reason science experiments are almost always replicated by other people, because having knowledge about how the experiment works and what the result is could lead to you subconsciously doing things a certain way that may affect the results of the experiment.

It sucks about everything being lost but on the bright side at least you probably learned a lot through this and more than likely the next game will be even better man. You got this man.

Cool stuff man, enjoyed your Game. Version control has messed me up several times before with the same issues (Luckily I have an active daily backup to a NAS I could recover). But the reason it sucks ass is it was an external program that was never designed to run with Unity in the first place and was added and forced on only a couple years ago.

Just get the time even for half an hour and do practical and if you fail and can't show success then even great because you are doing more practical and telling your brain that to achieve that goal no nope that code or way will work and you will get more smart in coding the more u fail in coding bug , error , failure is the way to succeed and make it better because they bugs are easy to debug and relaxing

About the drawers You can do few things: 1. Additional block that blocks falling through, you can make it invisible but still with colision. 2. Failsafe in item object something like if(posY < someThreshold) TeleportToYCoordinate(); 3. Additional collision trigger checking if item is falling through to TP it back. About enemy AI can't say anything, don't know anything in this category, specially in Unity :<

I doubt anyone is going to read this, but at this point, I just need to get it off my chest. Im tired, I'm tired of sinking years of my life into wanting to make games and getting absolutely no where. Roblox when I was a super little kid was my first inspiration and got me trying to make gun models and the like, as well as trying to make games based off the games I played and thought were fun. Naturally I didn't get too far, but then I found Scratch in 5th grade. I began making games with it, drawing stuff out, learning all I could, but it still wasn't what I wanted and nothing turned out quite how I hoped. I had tried to learn unity here and there, but programming was complicated and I barely understood anything, so I tried to take programming and computer classes whenever I could. All that happened was me getting to learn the basics of python over, and over, and over again. And that didnt get me any closer to knowing how to code in C#, but I kept hoping that maybe some class would teach me. I went through middle school, and all of high school, but nothing. And so then I hoped college would *finally* teach me how to program so I could make games. But no, I got to learn a tiny bit of linux, and then yet again more basics of Python. And then I couldn't pass the stupid math class requirements for further classes, so thousands of dollars basically thrown in a fire pit for no reason. So then I try to learn Unreal Engine's blueprints, because I want to make more open world styled games. And I think im making some progress going through tutorials, but all im learning how to do is the most mundane of things that barely even contributes to the types of games I *actually* want to make. Now I'm trying to balance out a job, learn 3D modeling and spending countless hours just trying to just get the most basic feature of my game to work. I can't afford at this point to wait yet more decades of struggling to learn how to make diddly freaking squat. Im tired of pointless projects that take me no where, with everything I try to learn barely even applying to what I actually want to do. Im sick and tired of it all, and so at this point I just want to have someone else program and I focus on all the other parts. I wanna make something that isnt a useless novelty, learn something from it that will take me further than half a step forwards when my goal is miles away. If someone by some miracle got to this point, I thank you for taking the time to listen to me ramble and rant about my life. I just pray that you are at least finding more success.

Hey, I think you did very well in your first Jam. It may not have gone as you planned, but don't overthink it. I'm used to losing progress editing videos and it's stressful as hell, but I try to look at it as personal progress. You had a hard time solving problems that now you can solve with ease, it sucks, but you did learn something from it. The project had a great idea, and I know you'll finish it one day, but take your time and DON'T freak out about losing progress, it's not that unusual. Keep going👍
@BloodAssassinАй бұрын
I participated too. Made a game about necromancy. My last Jam was GMTK 2023 and It was 2 days long. Thor's being 14 days made me take much more time, too much time, and I didn't manage to finish it before the deadline. I focused too much on art and animations neglecting actual gameplay. So no sfx, no music, no menus. Main gameplay loop unfinished. Lesson learned! From now on main gameplay comes first, with placeholders of course. And if I have time I'll replace the placeholders with my assets. I have submitted this version to the Jam, wanted to get some feedback on the idea and the art.

Whenever I make my games (I found this quote on twitter), I just makes games I would’ve loved when I was younger like platformers, or adventure games like Zelda, since they don’t make a lot of games like it anymore and I kind of just want to “fill in” the void.

My issue is I'm an ideas person, not an artist. I've tried making games and such, but you almost always need art, and then I get critical because it looks so janky. If I didn't have to worry about art, I have so many fun mini-game ideas

I'm just a guy who lives in Argentina and is studying programming, we had the choice to do a normal program or a videogame in one of the subjects as a final project, guess what did I choose. I did not regret it, I have been studying and seeing how people make games even before entering university. After so much time finally gave in. Don't wait, "why wait?" go ahead and try so you could say you at least tried. I also have been acquiring skills aside , my art is better now. Sure, the first step is hard but you will see how it will grow, can't say for others but I'm planning on doing more projects and when I get finally the experience I need I'll publish my first game, good luck to y'all, try and keep dreaming on to make your visions true.
