im from Kingston where this ferry is from this and its smaller (but not that small) sister vessel the amherst islander 2 are the first fully electric car farries in eastern Ontario built in Romania if you havent seen this ferry in operation i have a video taken last april of it running

What are those structures along the port side? They don't show in other pictures of the BMk

I asked on Facebook and I was told that they are specialized cranes for unloading steel coils. A forklift in the hold loads the crane on the ship, then the crane rotates 180° so that a forklift can unload dockside. too bad that area isn't as nice as the one at the Duluth Harbor. seems pretty run down.

There is a lot of potential for this area, but the piers themselves have been neglected for a long time. There are beaches on either side of the canal, but they exist on a thin sliver of land between a highway and Lake Ontario.

@@GreatLakesAdventuresON I was at Welland Lock 3 this morning and saw the Greenwing pass through the lock. My daughter goes to Niagara College 5 mins away so I did some boat nerding!!

They're probably already thinking of scrapping her. It seems to be the way they do things these days. I used to go on the Canadian Olympic as a kid. My dad was the skipper on there for many years.

The John D. Leitch was launched in 1967. It is still in use as a Self Discharging Bulk Carrier.

Incorrect. In this situation, freighter always has the right away because it is limited in manoeuvrability by size and draft.
