Enjoyed your video. The geology snippets are good. Would like more. Enjoyed the high vantage point and would like more identification of sites, such as Tecopa Dry Lake. Thanks for sharing.

Hey David, thanks for the comment! Mostly, thanks for checking out the video. These are fun to do and I have more in the works, hopefully. While my obsession generally focuses on the ranges of Nevada, I do spend quite a bit of time on the California side. I get so focused on the landforms, birds, and a few fancy photographs, I often forget about some of the more prominent landmarks. Tecopa is fascinating, in particular. Again, thanks checking in. Keep going...

Mr. Young this video is absolutely inspiring. I have long been interested in gathering examples of the great basin toolstone for chemical reference. Thank you for your work

If you haven't already check out the Joe Moore collection at UNR. He was instrumental in documenting NV obsidian sources. He worked for NDOT I believe he was a state archeologist in the 80's. He taught my dad how to flintknap, my dad taught me. Joe has ALL the locations and did the same thing you are doing, his papers would help you a lot.

This is amazing for so many reasons! Story Time: My family has owned property near the Humbolt river for a very long time (we live in Washington however) and we visit almost every year. 8 years ago during one of our visits we ended up driving along a dried up river bed (we thought) and we found a SEA of obsidian. I collected a lot of it at the time and ended up giving it to friends and family as a gift and foolishly not keeping any for myself. A few years later I went back and could not remember where that was, every year since I have tried to find where it was and couldn’t. Present Time - I am here at rye patch reservoir starting my search again and the water is lower than ever this year, I realized that were I had found obsidian all those years ago was in the dried up reservoir without having realizing it. So today I was researching online and came across your video and watched it. I looked up “poker brown wash” and realized it fed directly into the dried up reservoir bed that can only be accessed when the water is this low. Welp… now I have a box of obsidian. Thank you sooooo much!!!!

It never occurred to me that obsidian could be deposited BEFORE the current landscape profile. This stuff is OLD! 🤯🤗
