Hm... It was announced in Russian and then in English that the Rach is about to be performed. Probably he did not understand English. But he is a wonderful pianist with nerves of steel. So he got on fabulously.

Disgusting !!! I am throwing out my piano or limiting myself to MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB. How can a nine year old play this incredibly complicated piece with such perfection ? I can compare it favorably to the HOROWITZ performance. FANTASTIC

Orchestra plays the wrong piece and the pianist : Erm, what the sigma? And then bro locks in : Nah I'd Adapt. *Locks in and saves the whole concert*

Strange... i understood this as a prank by the orchestra on the pianist 😮... that is why the conductor placed a finger on his lips before the start... presumably telling the orchestra to keep the prank a secret.... 😂 yet somehow there are online reports to state that it is a genuine mistake... what is truly going on? 😮😮😮

To me, I think the entire competition should be invalid or no one can get the champion but make it 2nd 3rd and two 4th with An as 4th.

Позор всей организации, навсегда запятнавшей историю конкурса столь непростительной оплошностью. Так безграмотно поступить с конкурсантом, который возможно должен был стать победителем в тот год.

I love this - it's such a good summary of using the imagination instrumentally (!) and directly instead of letting worry/anxiety dictate what you focus on. The best part is that this kind of practice inherently reduces anxiety about those things simply because it constitutes a form of action that you can take to deal with future problems - a lot of anxiety persists due to the lack of obvious action you can take in the present to prevent it, but if you are confident that these kinds of mental exercises help then it gives you a release valve for those negative feelings. And of course hearing tips about good performance from somebody who is actually an astonishingly good and precise performer makes it hit much harder.

This is so unfair! Absolutely amazing how he could play it, after this shock. The jury should have ignored the first beats and give him extra points for playing under higher pressure!

Precisely one second, he took - to figure out what was happening, unload one concerto from his brain, load a new one, start playing, and get back in synchronisation. I'm not surprised he was annoyed, but the way he handled it was nearly miraculous.

The announcer said first "Tchaikovsky" then said "my mistake, Rachmaninov". For the pianist, he must have understood "First Tchaikovsky and then Rachmaninov", which is what he had in mind already, confirming it was everything ok.
