GoPro Hero 8 with an upgrade to the Enduro battery and a 512GB micro SD card. I now use a GoPro Hero 9 with an external battery plugged in for higher resolution / even longer flights.

Also, why do you not have an adjustable valve that just turns up the flame from 0-100 and you dial in a continuous flame that'll just keep you approximately level, then you use that as altitude trim and your blast valve as up and another valve to turn it down as your down?

Once you get your pilot license, can you rent a hot air balloon and if so, what does it normally cost? I'm thinking of going for my pilot license, but I'd rather rent than buy my own.

How do you start the fire on the burner usually on a hot air balloon?
@scottmcgrew4895
@scottmcgrew4895 2 жыл бұрын
There is a piezo igniter built into the burner for lighting the pilot light, but if that fails we carry igniters in our pockets, too.

Scott, thanks for sharing yours and Travis' training flights. I've finished your series and finally started Travis' series. Extra thanks to Dave for allowing you to record his teaching while you learn. He's an excellent instructor with a motivating, "hands-off" approach that let's you get the full experience. As a pilot-in-training, it's been very difficult to find quality videos that share this experience. Congrats on acquiring you Private Cert.

It's a bit confusing. I'm Scott McGrew. This is my "personal page." I started sharing my training videos here to share with my friends and family. Turns out, other people get something out them, too... I am now a private pilot. Travis (he and I own the balloon together) is currently training under Dave Bair. I have been uploading his training flights to this channel as well, since so many find it useful. Once he is finished, we both plan to continue on to our commercial license. We will once again use Dave as our instructor, and I will once again upload those videos as we make the flights.

As im watching this how did you know when to burn
@scottmcgrew4895
@scottmcgrew4895 3 жыл бұрын
Dave taught me early on about maintaining level flight with short / frequent burns. It’s really a learned feeling to know when to burn as the balloon is cooling / before letting the balloon descend. One of the more difficult skills to learn for me.
