hi @JerryCherryBand, great video! I'm about to get a fuzz face mini and the seller just threw in also a lpb-1 for 15 euros. are you running the boosts in this video in front of your amp or in the effects loop? im trying to wrap my head around the use of this lpb-1 since I've heard that it can get muddy in front of the amp but foes his job in the fx loop. thank you very much! greetings from Italy :)
@JerryCherryBand6 күн бұрын
I've always used the LPB-1 in the effects loop. It's great for boosting your overall volume for a solo or anything really. You can only boost so much in the front of your amp. In this video I'm comparing the two going into the front of my Strymon Iridium which is essentially an amp. Greeting from Brooklyn. NY. Great pedal to have.

I learned a lot from this lesson. But I think the two most important things I learned is the Mixolydian scale is too busy and 5 note scales are better than 7 😂
@JerryCherryBand8 күн бұрын
Very cool. I understand what you mean and totally agree. It could be really cool to slip in the notes of the Mixolydian mode. When used minimally and tastefully. I know that I tend to over play but if you back off it all fits together nicely 🎸

Watching your EQ / Volume / Cab settings throughout this demo - you aren't touching the 'plexi-ness' of this pedal at all; instead, relying on boosts that defeat the purpose.

How do I target notes in a Blues with 3 Dominant 7 chords? First I mentally trace 3 diagonal lines straight across all 6 strings in 3 places. That’s all the TRITONES formed by 3 and b7. Then I fill them out with Mixolydian plus b3 and b5 from the Blues scale. That leaves only b2-b6-7 which I use in lines that resolve. I also have the I7-IV7-V7 in the 5 CAGED locations. - You said “a 1-4-5 in A” but because all 3 chords are Dominant 7’s, they are NOT in the key of A; they are in 3 separate keys, right? Ponder that a bit.
@JerryCherryBand13 күн бұрын
Oh yes, 1-4-5 are the 5 chords of their corresponding keys. I like the tritone diagonally. A lot to unpack in here. I need to work on those. Lots of fun here for sure🎸Thank you m.von.

You have to be able to harmonize the major scale in the following ways: 1) in thirds, MmmMMmm. 2) in sixths, MMmMMmm. 3) in triads, MmmMMmd, voiced 135. 4) in triads, voiced 351. 5) in triads, voiced 513. 6) in 7th chords, Maj7/min7/min7/Maj7/Dom7/min7/half-dim7. and those 7th chords are to be voiced in “Drop 2’s” so: 1573, 3715, 5137, and 7315 (those are the 4 different voicings of 7th chords playable on the guitar). Now the triads, in all 3 inversions, must be played on string sets 123-234-345-456. The 7th chords, in all 4 inversions of Drop 2’s, must be played on string sets 1234-2345-3456. - You did ask “in what way do you know all the chords in a key”. So this was how to harmonize a major scale. -
@JerryCherryBand21 күн бұрын
All great stuff. I'm pretty aware of most of this. I don't know to much about the drop chords yet all though I'm sure I play them. There's a lot of important info in your comment. All of it actually. Thank you for that. On this channel I find it best to show small pieces "Digestible" pieces for the learner. Yes, its good to see the big picture too. I'm looking forward to digging deeper into what you're saying 🎸
@m.vonhollen667310 күн бұрын
Yes, of course you do play them. I also played them before I went to Jazz college decades ago where they had me learn them SYSTEMATICALLY. You have come a very long way all on your own, and that’s admirable. My opening comment is a recipe for how to harmonize the major scale: in 3rds, in 6ths, in triads in all inversions, in 7th chords in all inversions, and all of that in all string sets. - What I want to do is congratulate you and encourage you to approach it systematically. I’m old and I still work on music for hours every day. In just the last year or so, the fretboard opened up to me in a way that I never would have thought possible. It’s the journey of a lifetime. Keep at it, systematically!

That A-D-G-C-F which is 1-4-b7-b3-b6 over 1 can be analyzed like this: A is 1-3-5, D is D-F#-A is 4-6-1, G is G-B-D is b7-9-4, C is C-E-G is b3-5-b7, F is F-A-C is b6-1-b3. (If we would have tried to go one more, it would have taken us to Bb over A which is Bb-D-F is b9-4-b6; and that b9 is not cool and so it ends there in my view.)
@JerryCherryBand21 күн бұрын
All awesome stuff. Great way to look at the chord relationships. I'm going to spend some time on this. I'm sure I'll like the Bb. haha. I'm weird like that. 🎸Thank you.

Try playing 1-4-b7-b3-b6, and the reverse of b6-b3-b7-4-1, all triads over a drone of 1. This should have all been Roman numerals.- It’s going up or down by 4ths until the next one would have been b9 over 1. - So in D, D-G-C-F-Bb is 1-4-b7-b3-b6. It’s similar to what you did. That second thing you did in A is the start of this. Go A-D-G-C-F (1-4-b7-b3-b6). Play the C with the same shape as A but up 3 frets, and the F with the same shape as D but up 3 frets.
