I love embossing folders as you can use them in so many different ways! Not that I have a ton of ink pads as I prefer using either my watercolor or gauche paints whenever I can. Those, I think, have to be mixed with some matte medium or something of that sort so as to stick to the folder if you're going for one of those effects wherein you apply the color to the folder itself prior to rolling it thru the rollers; which is why I'm usually adding the paints after doing the embossing. Oh, to prevent unwanted cracking I've seen ladies either spritz the paper 1st with water, or back the thinner sheets with a 2nd sheet so you get a 2-fer! Yes, figuring out your sandwich as it varies so wildly between folders even made by the same company will require a lot of trial and error.

Your journal is beautiful, and how I wish I had done a better job myself of making something like that to memorialize the important events in my life! I still can, of course, and think that is something I should think more on. Back in the day when I did craft shows, I often took a few "oddball" items along that were quite different from the bulk of what I was selling. I love doing mixed media stuff as I've said before as you can have so much fun with stuff! Several family members have been asking me if I'm going to get into cardmaking (handmade). For the time being, no, in so far as making them to sell. From the research I've been doing, you can't sell such items at a high enough cost to cover your costs. Not that I'd ever expected to make huge amounts of money from my "crafting" activities, but I would like to cover the cost of the supplies!

Really cute idea and execution. Talking about lessons learned about stuff; back when I started out everyone was telling me I *had* to use E6000 when gluing things together. It didn't matter if it was polymer clay, beads, stones, metal charms, whatever; only E6000 would keep things glued together. (Which is a fair point as it is a great glue.) What people failed to mention was all the issues you could run into, primarily with the tubes the glue is sold in. You can only open those tubes so many times before they fail somehow, or the glue will start to harden while still inside. The tubes will also split open at some point as you're trying to squeeze the glue out. Thus, I've learned to buy that only in those tiny tubes so I get to use the bulk of it before I have to toss it!

I would absolutely love to see the finished doll, whenever you're ready to reveal it. Making dolls is one of those ideas I've thought of too, as I've seen some incredible examples over the years. For example, my husband's grandmother (sadly gone these many years) used to use an old wine bottle as the base for her wedding dolls. Back in the day, she started with the cleaned-up bottle and took a small Styrofoam ball she'd cover it with the fiber fill so she could mold that into the eye sockets and nose shapes for the face. That would be covered with part of an old nylon stocking to give it the facial color desired, and the eyes were made from rounded buttons. The rest of the face was made using embroidery floss glues and poked into the ball base. The hair was either baby fine yarn or more embroidery floss to create a sort of representation of the bride. The dress would be made from scraps of fabric somehow connected to the bride. Say leftovers from a blouse or dress she had made. (Back in the day when she made these, most women were sewing and often did make their own wedding dresses and other "fancy" party clothes.) I was the last family member to be gifted with one before she passed and have always treasured her as not only a lovely memory of a very happy day, but of the incredibly talented woman she was.

@@Irene-KrausKreations OMG Irene, memories of days gone by! My memories came flooding back too. I did those type of "soft sculpture" dolls for an Art Show competition when I was in my Advanced Art class back in High School. I think I did 3 or 4, a Ballerina Marionette, a Pig in a Mason Jar, a Baby Doll and it seems like one other but I don't really remember. On a side note I do know what you mean when people used to actually sew clothes. My Wedding dress came from Montgomery Wards(1984) for 40$ and it was so gorgeous, my best friends Mother( who was a seamstress) sewed my Veil and it too was Stunning! I also did a type of Bottle Doll, one was a Wedding Style and the other was an 1800s style but they were Maniquin style so they didn't have heads...lol...I still have them. I've done well over 50 of the cloth dolls over the years and sold many of them. I should do a video but they are rather large at almost 3 foot tall. Oh a great walk down memory lane today! Thank you, Irene for that! The thumbnail on this video shows the completed doll but I put her away too soon to show a photo of her on the video and I don't know how to transfer one from my phone! Ya know...age!😊😂

I love watching "assembly" vids as there are so many variations in how something can go together; but then that's why different things made by different people are never exactly the same! Oh, and I had to smile when your bead assembly fell off the earring wire as I've had that happen sooo many times.
