It is now 2024 and this is still the best FF retrospective you can find on the internet! Man, I miss the Gamtrailers site! 😢

Thank goodness for this video! I remember visiting this site all the time as a kid, watching shows like Awesome Video Games and NES Tips and downloading the soundtracks. I appreciate you recording this before it went poof.

There are so many incredible Final Fantasy games, but if we are being honest there’s probably only one masterpiece. FF6 is nearly a perfect game. It isn’t my favorite, but I certainly adore it and have to acknowledge its supremacy.
@stevenvegh79642 ай бұрын
I had a friend who was a few years older than me and owned a SNES a couple years before I did. He let me play his games when I would visit. That’s when I discovered Final Fantasy 2 (aka 4). My life hasn’t been the same since. I adored playing video games at that age but FF4 almost ruined me on anything but RPGs after that. Now I expected to have a compelling story in my games.

I'm an English teacher from Brazil who loves videogames, especially Final Fantasy. One of the ways I developed my language skills was translating stuff like game scripts and videos and post them online for people who didn't understand English, and this retrospective was one of them. I would listen to the same sentence, again and again, trying my best to figure out what Brandon said. As I write this comment, I now understand every word perfectly. Retrospective videos about game franchises are a dime a dozen now but this one will always be special to me.

This takes me back, I remember playing the original FF as a child, my dad and I would take turns playing as we made our way through the game. I had a friend who was able to get the Japanese titles and had a famicom, so I never missed a title, it was awesome. We didn't understand the stories, and figuring out the abilities was trial by error and it made them a little clunky, but they were fun.

Just a quick update, I shipped the kit back and they sent me a working kit back. Still some lag with the sensors but the company made it right.

Still have this game and the 6 or so cd set. I remember the multiplayer was so much fun....until people found out how to "warp-ram" other players and the giant IOn weapon on the Klingon battleship they figured out how to make it fire without a cool down... It essentially destroyed online public. Only the people you met who wanted to play real matches in private rooms or out in the middle of nowhere on public were what kept me in it. No video...just a title screenshot..

Glad to find someone else that loved this game! I never got the chance to play online it its heyday as at the time I only had a 56k modem and limited time due to the single phone line for the family.

I'd like too, but these videos actually come from the RSS Spotify feed, KZbin converts them to videos with the thumbnail as the main video. Not sure why KZbin's podcast hoster converts them all to video after google closed google podcasts.

Nice dude 😏 I love how you started the music break, and outro with my top favorites! Psylocke, Sprial, and the ending theme. Do you know why Capcom can't use that ending theme on the official soundtrack? I heard it was due to legal reasons 🤨 My first time playing COTA was the PlayStation 1 in the 90's.
@afterglow-podcast4 ай бұрын
Not sure on why they didn't use that theme on the soundtrack. I would guess due voice acting royalty issues, but that's just a guess. Thanks for checking the show out!

The things that made the series great held true moving forward to my fave game FFXI that is deep characters deep combat and mythology. The one difference I have from most others is that I never liked FF7 I found it was idk sort of cheesy.I did mildly like 8 and 9 but 10 was the best story I ever witnessed in a game.The characters in 10 al had incredible stories and together it felt like a real life adventure. FFXI was more in line with the early console versions I liked 3-5 but of course with a lot more depth.The only thing I liked about 7 was that it saved the franchise and allowed me to enjoy years of FFXI.
