Great to see another new video, this is fast becoming one of my favourite channels. You can get new printer paper from ZedLabz. I've also got a couple of means of exporting the photos digitally from the camera, that's fun.

Nice shots ! Might be a dumb question but which settings were you using did you switch to shooting Raw ?

Not at all! I decided to shoot in JPEG as I didn’t think the quality of the lens would be high enough to justify RAW

Ah I see makes sense I am trying to build my lense today 🥳 really looking forward. I am using the x-t30 II and once i've built it i want to combine film simulation settings with the diy lense. I think shooting it with a suitable night recipe together with the built in flash might be promising. Thanks again for the inspiration!

Buy an old TLR camera. You can shoot through the viewing lens if you set your camera up to shoot through the focusing screen. You’ll get the graphics of the focus screen on your image, which can be changed out for different types. It’s a unique look, unmistakably vintage and a lot of fun. And then you can shoot film with the old camera too!

Interesting but still don't see how the recipes subtract from this and if you really want a more vintage feel why not just adapt M42 vintage lenses or something along those lines where you at least have control over focus, focal lengths and apature?

This lens is cheap to make, produces a really gritty image and the fact it doesn’t fully focus gives it a dream like haze. Thing is as well because it’s so small you could literally just use it as your lens cap so you have a lens on your camera non stop, just incase you wanted to snap a quick photo without having to mess with manual focus of an older lens. The vibe/look of the images won’t be for everyone, but I love it!

I’m with you. I can put old Nikon lenses on my Canon EF mount 5D MkIV with a simple adapter. You can choose a high quality lens or an old gimp depending on the look you want. And they’re often cheaper than the plastic camera used in this video. No assembly required.

Sure some and an increasing number of fuji users start using the gear because of hype. But recipes aren't the problem or cause at all. Blame the x100 line up. It has single handedly destroyed the pricing of basically all fujifilm's product line ups. I believe that the true core fans of fujifilm, the xt lovers, have chosen their gear not just because of some recipes or retro look. For me at least the only real reason to consider fujifilm, when deciding what brand to go with as a beginner, had to do with handling. A camera can take good jpeg's, or bad ones, it can have a lot of dynamic range, or just a little. But what really will make the biggest difference in your photography is how you handle a camera and if you are having fun with it. Quality isn't key. It is about the experience of using the gear. And handling and the hands on experience of the xt line-up really has had a unique spot in the camera scene. So handling truely was my only focus. I always have to explain it to people who say 'wow great looking camera!' -- 'yeah, but that's not why I bought it at all'. To enjoy taking pictures with a camera you have to enjoy using it. And for me Fujifilm has nailed the handling part. It may be stubborn, not great ui. Have recipes, which can be good, but never create perfect looks in all situations. And be a bit fiddly in terms of getting the raw files to play nicely with lightroom. So in terms of file and editting workflow it doesn't score high at all for me. But it doesn't matter as I enjoy using the camera in a way I can't with other brands. Blindly changing shutterspeed to account for changing lighting conditions on the street, while the camera isn't even powered on... It makes you interact and work with the camera in a very unique way. And sure recipes are great. I have some that create a very distinct and consistant look in 9 out of 10 pictures. Which makes me have to focus less on things like 'hmm how am I gonna edit this to make it work' or having to ignore the in camera look while shooting. 'why are all skintones so purple... #sony'. You can say that it doesn't matter. And you are right, you can still get a great picture out of it when editting. But that is the thing: 'after'. With my xt-3 I don't have to take that into consideration when shooting. That is something for later. Not distracting me from using my eyes to see the light, subjects and situations around me. And sure raw files end up being loaded into lightroom for most paid shoots. But often I try to base the look on the jpeg look. Tweak it from there. It gives me a baseline to work or differ from. It is a different but unique way of handling a camera, both while shooting as in post. I enjoy the vid and the idea of frankensteining your own lens. I think it suits the fuji system a lot. But how it relates to not using recipes is a bit far stretched and pretends that every fuji user is a hype buyer. Only into the system because of that 'look' or retro camera design. Which is not the case at all!

I travel on avg 8 months our of the year. Carry my X100v everywhere. I shoot in both jpeg and raw. I prefer using recipes since they are quick and easy and I do not have time to edit. I shoot for fun and capturing quick moments with friends along my travels. I also carry a instax printer, so many times, I take a quick photo using a recipe, then transfer to my phone via the app and print it out and share the print with my friends in just a couple mins. Although I mainly use recipes, I like to save all my raw files for a day when I will eventually like to create personal coffee table type books with all my photos in them to keep at home. jpeg quick easy to share photos, raw for long term memory. Think it is a great balance for someone that just wants to capture moments and not make it a huge process.

People using Fujifilm camera with film recipes are not all Pro at taking photo. They just want a "Good" with "Retro Vibe" pictures to share with their friends or social media "Directly in JPEG". It would never be wrong for people like you or others to seek out "REAL" 90's photo with alternatives. However it is always a bad call to ask people to "STOP USING" somethings while it is not wrong or right from the beginning, after all. (P.S. not a Fujiflim owner)

I think a lot of people buy some models to get that retro feel for sure, I know I did. More so asking people to stop and give something different a try, if someone got one for a similar reason to me they might find this to be more of the vibe they’re looking for

I get this, but it falls apart if you don't want to be stuck to a game boy or don't have the money to get one/mod it, there's not really much of a choice. Emulator handhelds are often gonna be much cheaper. I personally go with a middle-ground, I use my 3DS for a lot of the games I play. It's still original nintendo hardware, but still emulated for a lot of older games.
