For the best long-term fix, I recommend replacing the contact strips with these: synthchaser.com/product/key-contact-strip-set-for-sequential-circuits-prophet-600-10-pieces/

Absolutely fantastic video. Has given me the confidence to try this on my new Prophet where about half the keys aren't responding.

Thank you, now I have the confidence to stick that new bad boy in there. I noticed you used and engraver pen to undo the old solder joints. Was this so you wouldn't use to much heat?

Hey there, im trying to build a custom keyboard chassis and your videos really help me understand how they are constructed 😊.. Of the synths that have the keybed atached to the base plate, how thick is the plate? Is it steel or aluminium? I want to find out if i could get by using a 2mm aluminium base plate bent into an L shape, forming the base and the back.. Its only 23cm wide but 1m long.. I guess 2mm steel plate or even 1.5mm steel plate bent in the same way would do the job but i want to avoid painting for corosion protection as i want to make it chemical free, no glue, or syntetic finnish on the wood etc..

Hey Hey! I've been looking for years for Help with my Drumulator! It is precisely that mod - it switches memories but never noticed different bank sounds. I just want to bring my sweety to her old ,agnitude - no funny, unnecessary mods. I even can't control or understand it! HELP|

Dear Synthchaser, is there anywhere to find the resistors array values? i can't seems to find the values on the service manual. for example you say in your video (10:33) that you've checked the resistor array an they're ok. thank you!

I'm about to make a power supply for my alesis fusion for similar reasons. They are a known failure point, are inefficient and were bought in ready made. I've managed to fix and slightly modify the existing one but i think I'm going to replace it with a pico atx supply and a 12v power adapter housed internally. This will do away with the fan to make it silent alongside the ssd. The only hard part is the power loom is soldered to the supply so there's no easy solution. It's either solder it or make a new loom. I may need to add a boost converter for the lcd too as IIRC it's -16v. No small task, but it will be much nicer silent.

Yay! This might just have me confident enough to start using my EII live. Love that even a ding dong like me can figure this one out. I'll take a look at the LED replacement, though I imagine the installation isn't as simple as this one is.

Pretty sure the power supply is the weakest link on everything E-mu. All the romplers start to look like the screen is going out but it's usually just the power supply. I just had to put a new power supply in a Planet Phatt, and I have two Proteus/3s that need one. But I guess an E-mu is kinda like a 30-year-old server from a datacenter, so it's OK if they need a new power supply. I got a Proteus 2000 that actually needed a new encoder AND new cursor buttons. That makes me pretty happy that it was actually used, even if there are no signs that the guy ever edited a single preset. 😂 I wonder if Syntaur knows about these? They'd probably put them on the site. They have a ton of old E-mu parts. But not many power supplies!

@@12bitizthewaytogo92 I assume you mean analog POST regulation, and no, it doesn't have it, and neither did the original. Any requisite safety caps are encapsulated in the pre-fab modules. You can read the datasheet for the various safety features found in the modules.

Great video! Any chance you can make a video on an known emulator 2 issue. Sometimes the emu wont boot and is stuck in a freeze. Display shows "version 3.1" and it stays like that when trying to boot. Also when using USB drive, it just boots to "003/077" and stay like that. Whats strange, memory test i doable and after the memory says "memory ok" the emu still freezes in the boot display... PSU is new and works, memory say ok so what could be the issue?

Check the calibration on the pitch and mod wheel it's quite possible it drifted out and damaged the DAC chip. It happened to me.

Just discovered I still had one of these at my mothers house. It was hidden away in storage. I thought I had sold it. It has been their since 1989 when I moved out.. It worked fine when I last played it. Opened it up and everything looks like the day it was made. No dust even. No burnt spots. All original. Tried to power up and absolutely nothing happens. No lights or sound. Time to get my multimeter out one of these days.
