The GOAT.. For loads of reasons. Era was tough. Pitches were awful. Plus he played in teams that had average other team players.. could go on and on with the reasons . But he was naturally the most gifted footballers ever

For me it’s hard to disagree… I started watching football in the mid 80’s when Maradona was in his absolute prime years… and he just had that something that I cannot quite put my finger on that puts him just above Messi for me… I think Messi was blessed with the perfect conditions… his upbringing at La Masia and his comfort in the surroundings of that Barcelona team helped massively… and the fact that he struggled for years to stamp his authority with average Argentina teams would suggest he probably wasn’t capable of doing what Diego did with Argentina and Napoli… single handily galvanise and drag an average team to sensational heights… his achievements with Napoli are unreal when you consider the strength of Serie A at that time and the massive clubs that they took on punch for punch with Maradona the pivotal figurehead! We always get lost in this modern era with stats and numbers and yes both Messi and CR7 have got ridiculous numbers… but let’s also not forget they have everything at their disposal to reach them heights… modern pitches, modern sports science, modern equipment, relaxed laws which protect them from getting smashed about the pitch every week… along with many many more… The one guy that I saw in his very short peak that I thought would actually surpass Maradona and probably would be the best player of all time had he been more professional and not sustained so many bad injuries as a result was R9…. He was basically Maradona/Messi and Cristiano rolled into one…
