Seems like this would be a great alternative to bar soap for the shower for using essential oils that don’t come through the soapmaking process well because you can add it after! Thanks for your well-made video!

Hi, the water that remains from salting out soap. Can it be used for sth? Is it the glycerin? If I understood it right, I hear one person say it’s glycerin and she uses it in the cleaning water for her floor etc. an other person said it’s caustic and one should be aware of it when throwing out. Is it safe to discard in the toilet or harmful for the environment and watersystem? Thank you very much for considering my question. I hope for a helpful answer. Kind regards :)

Hi Alma! I have a 3-tier wire trolley which I bought very cheaply. I just put them on the trolley for a few months. It allows air flow from the bottom and the top. I usually just wrap them in brown paper when I want to store them or give them away. I hope you know what I'm talking about?

@@sunbirdmom , it's a problem to find any kind of animal fat. I make soap from coconut oil and olive oil. But I have very dry skin. I think, that only soap from animal fat will be good for me. And I also want to make tallow balm. Hope to find tallow))).
@sunbirdmom
@sunbirdmom Жыл бұрын
@yuliaandronova4620 I'm so sorry... You don't use too much coconut oil, do you? Coconut oil makes beautiful bubbles, but it can strip the oils from your skin easily. I never add more than 5% coconut oil when I make soap for my own use. My skin becomes dry quickly too. Have you considered trying out other plant oil combinations in stead? Definitely superfat your soap, don't go over 5% with coconut oil and if you can get hold of palm oil/palm kernel oil, you can add that too for hardness.

Thank you for this! Am I understanding this method with the cook is unnecessary, like the difference between cold process and hot process? Or, is the cook necessary in order to create liquid tallow soap. I was looking at the recipes for bar vs liquid on the calculator. Everything looks the same but liquid has more lye? Also, it looks like there’s no superfat? Don’t we want that for our bodies. So many questions!! I really want to know and understand as much as I can about this process. I really appreciate your time and attention on this matter for me!
@sunbirdmom

I've also learned from other soap makers! Don't worry. I know there are people who don't cook their soap "paste" when making liquid soap. But the way I learned from other liquid soap makers was the cooking method. It ensures that saponification is complete. Remember, the lye is different (KOH instead of NaOH). You never superfat liquid soap. That's just how I learned. Maybe because unsaponified fat will not dissolve in water. But I actually do add a few drops of olive oil in my diluted soap if I use it myself. So you can "superfat" afterwards. If that makes sense.

My 100% Beef Tallow soap is very hard and doesn't dissolve and doesn't lather at all. Can you help?
@sunbirdmom
@sunbirdmom Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for reaching out. This soap IS very hard and lasts longer than a lot of other soap. If your caustic soda was not clumped up or old, and your measurements were correct when you made it, can it be that it is just different than what you are used to? Mine always lather. But the mineral composition of your water can also impact it. You can consider replacing 10% of the tallow with coconut oil for better lather. Just use a lye calculator to determine your NaOH amount needed. Was this helpful?
