You’d ideally want to run this directly into an fx loop so it’s hitting the poweramp, otherwise it’s stacking 2 preamps. But it would still sound good through the front I reckon. I can’t post any examples here but if you jump on my discord I can hook this up to a clean channel on an amp and run it through the front like the EHX and see how it goes

Really excellent comparison dude! There is a marked difference between the Tonex and the others of course. I am really intrigued by the tone capture tech and software as I have a collection of custom built amps so capturing my personal tones is a big thing for me. Time to experiment with NAM and Tonocracy captures! Those tones were insanely good! Can I ask, do you use a load box when capturing? Or through a real cab and mics? Or both? Have an awesome day and thanks for the time you put into putting this together 🤟🏽 rock on!

I don’t have a fm3 anymore but if you share some samples on discord I’m sure someone can point you in the right direction. I’d start a new patch, set master vol to 2, gain at 2-3 (whatever feels good), rest of eq at noon….. then I’d goto dynacabs and choose any typical 4x12 with a 57mic near the centre, do the other one with a dynamic mic (one bright one with body)… blend them til the tone mostly sounds good. Then start messing with the amp dials, if you’ve dialled in the cabs well enough you won’t need drastic changes, maybe nudge the mids and treble a bit But yeah share some sameples on discord all good

I haven’t put the gain under a microscope, I’m gonna be doing a stealth shootout soon between the real thing and a few ones like the TMP so we’ll see. As a general player the gain seems fine for punk and metal, maybe a bit smooth and not “real and raw” like an amp. To be fair the only one that’s done that for me has been fractal… but half the time I’d have to finesse things and end up with a smoother tone like what the quad cortex and TMP produce out of the box anyway I have no doubt the modelling could be improved, I’m here for all the improvements either way!

Thank you for the video, very useful! But I have one question that brought me here. How to properly setup levels on RME UCX II and Axe-Fx III connecting via SPDIF? I found the famous info on Fractal forum about setup configs (#5 for me). According that info I measured direct Axe-Fx input level, then set SPDIF input level to get the same numbers. But the sound from SPDIF is more distorted. On UCX II I had +19 inst with +7 gain. Then I saw a comment here from @eds4754 that +19 is the same level as Axe-Fx. I believe that it is about 0 gain on +19. After that I tried to set UCX II to +19 inst 0 gain and 0db SPDIF input level on Axe-Fx. Seems like now it matches completely but I'm not sure, my ears are spoiled with endless comparison. Have you faced with this case and what result you came up with?

@ampspedalspickups
@ampspedalspickups 12 күн бұрын
Lion is unabashedly old school Marshall Rock whereas Nameless has the roots of that sound but is supercharged for modern sounds. Lion is warmer fatter and I guess more "vintage" sounding. Nameless is just more modern, brighter and tighter which you need to clean up the low end and get the more modern metal thing going. Both are probably best in class for what they do, just anyone's pick on what kind of sound they're aiming for.

Love your channel! I own (for now) most of the big guys including an axe fx3, QC and TMP as well as some of Uafx pedals. My biggest issue with the TMP is the dark and somewhat muffled sound of the tmp’s 4x12 cabs. If heard alone they sound fine. Once I start doing true head to heads with a switcher there is something always a bit off. When I’ve used cabs from the QC or the ox stomp then it didn’t sound as bad. Also found that if I mixed a 1x12 with a 4x12 then the tmp was much more acceptable. Just waiting to see if then next update blows me away and if not then it’s time to part ways….

Thanks! I havent done extensive testing but I did think they were dark / not what I expected as well. I dragged over some IRs and surprisingly the cab wasnt too far off what I imported. I dont know whats going on but I do think there could be some weirdness around the cabs in general... maybe its more impedence mis-matching issues or something. I would have used some IR's here but then people might complain they can't achieve this sound on the TMP standalone. I should have a play around with IR's / SIC again. On a side note there's some annoying vol/level matching issues so when you scroll through SIC it can be a bit elusive trying to properly A/B things... its small stuff like that they really need to tighten up. Dont even get me started about the "mixer" when you blend 2 cabs, AWFUL haha. But yeah with all those gripes said... the tone rips, unit has tons of power. I have no idea if its the most accurate or anything but its like my fisher price toy that I enjoy and keep going back to.

@@ampspedalspickups definitely agree that it has high potential. The fender folks just need to be: 1. Honest about comparisons to other units and keep refining. 2. Maybe set goals to deliver a bit faster updates - I realize that software/firmware development is a massive undertaking and they want to get it right but they have a ways to go compared to the competition and I think a non-bug fix update every six month might be a bit on the slow side at this time. Most importantly I hope they maintain interest in the project

@Yestherewego 14 күн бұрын
IMO the lion specifically is better than NAM captures. The saturation and gain just sounds so good. The curated room dial adds so much realism. The problem with nam is that it's a collage. You have DI load boxes doing the amp capture then you have separate IR files to mimic the speaker. To me it never sounds right. Plus load boxes are not speakers, they are reactive loads, so they don't act exactly like a speaker. UAD spent a lot of time and energy on three amps. Simply the work put in to matching everything, and using the best of capturing and modeling tech has resulted in a much more coherent product.

@caopgtr The manual for that one says when your interface gain is set to 0, the instrument input is +15dbu. I have some captures at +13dbu and 2dor and others also have some captures at +13dbu. If you were to use ours, to take your input from +15dbu to +13dbu you need to turn UP +2db. If someone's pack said it was captured at +5dbu then you'd need to gain it up by +10 inside the plugin (always leave the interface gain at 0 and gain things up inside the software). The problem with NAM captures that you'll probably encounter is that lots of people don't mention their capture specification. If that's the case then it's a guessing game. But if you use someone's who has mentioned it, you can just adjust in the software.

Boomer myths! Evertune is flat out amazing The only scenario I can see where an Evertune might not be the best call is anything with constant bend and slide articulations like country/jazz/john mayer kind of really top level playing expressive stuff. For my 99.9% use of rhythm and tight leads the evertune is an absolute champ. Sustain is insanely increased, when you play chords or let anything ring out they're constantly wobbling in (close enough to) perfect pitch. One of the most common things people say after using an evertune is... I can't unhear how out of tune my normal guitars are (I'm the same now). I really can't foresee me buying a new guitar without evertune, it solves and excels at so many more things than problems it brings (none other than the styles I mentioned above). Zone2 is where its locked in and Zone3 is a free for all. It's upto you to ride that fine line. For my low string where I want it rock solid in tune I have it 70% in Zone2, I really have to bend it to get a bend sound. The top strings is probably the opposite... if I hold a chord up there my bad fretting is masked by the Evertune but when I goto do a bend it bends as expected, its just dialling it in properly. Good call on the review its about time. I actually fell out of love with the Solar because of the Fishmans. I had it in Drop D and it sounded wonky to me everywhere. I got it serviced and its in Drop G now and its an absolute monster. I just recorded a track with it now and am doing a tonemaster video with the Solar, should be out in a day or so... I'll do a follow up review for sure, the actual Solar guitar has held up great.

It needs delay, reverb and modulation though. Tonocracy continues to be the most full featured.

I have a feeling that stuff is coming, possibly paid updates (not sure) For me Universal still the front runner for stereo processing without mucking around… but tonocracy does have a lot of merit. If they refined the UI and did NAM captures instead of their format it would have been a much bigger deal imo.

Maybe it's just preference, maybe it's the usecase... I don't want a reverb or any other FX on a plugin like that. I would always lean towards tried and trusted FX in that domain.

I've had a few guitar processors over the years and always ended up selling them, and going back to a pedalboard: better feel and no fizz. They all have presets that are 98% distoriton-related, and rather poor cleans. For example, I like to get nice plummy Peter Green tones using humbuckers. I wonder if this box will be able to do that? I know it's made by Fender but it seems to mostly offer Fender-type amp emulations, and a token smattering of Marshall, for example. Is that why almost all the demos I've found on YT are done with Fender Strats? Sorry, I'm just thinking out loud, wondering whether to buy one. It's an awful lot of money to pay for something that doesn't seem versatile enough for guitarists like me who don't need a gazillion FX pedals and crazy levels of distortion!

Most of the tonemaster videos I see are cleaner edge of breakup stuff. Checkout Tim pierce he has a god video or two on it. I’m a high gain guy so I can’t comment too much on cleans but the clean guys seem to like the TMP over other modellers. I’m in the middle of filming another TMP video but it’s for drop G tuning and possibly the heaviest stuff I’ve ever done, complete other end of the spectrum 😆

sounds like shit… fuzzy, I understand it has not been "mixed" but really that specific profile or tone stack sounds terrible

The best part about NAM is that it’s amazingly accurate tech, open source and free. Playing anyone’s profiles you’re generally going to have some gripes with it. The best mileage you’ll get is doing your own captures…. So if you do your own, the software is great either way.

can you please explain how i can use my amp sims and studio monitors, with real delay, and reverb pedals into power amp in, or fx loop of a peavey special 212 combo. so hearing studio monitors and real amp at same time. audio interface is a blackstar polar 4, 4 in 4 out.

There’s probably a few ways you can do it but this is what I’d do Track1, guitar direct and use an amp sim, mute the output to your monitors but send the output to an output on your interface…. Plug the pedals into that output…. End the pedal chain and plug that into an input on the interface Track2 is reading the input from the pedals. On this track you want to a) Use an IR and hear the playback on your monitors b) send the output (without the IR) to the power amp probably on output4 on the interface. You can do all this way easier with DI boxes cause they split the signal but if you’ve only got the interface then that’s how I’d do it. If you join my discord I can probably send you photos with reaper settings
