Not every damper has A built-in spring to extend it...that affects the coil spring rebound rate...a true unilateral shock only uses valuing based upon the compression and extension qualities you need...

I don't know how you got the shock mount bolts out so easy. I've spent hours just getting one out and I bent the shock mount from pounding while stressed out. I'm so stressed out that I feel really sick. What happened is there is a sleeve that the bolt goes through. The bolt was stuck in that sleeve so the sleeve spins with the bolt. I bent the shock mount wider to get my vice grips in there to hold the sleeve, which slowly did work but @#%%^^. I haven't tried the top bolt yet which is much harder to get at. I tried removing the lower bolt on the other side and it's the exact same problem. I'm thinking about using a cut off wheel to cut bolts off but I need to know if I can get replacement bolts. I'm wondering if that sleeve is part of the new shock.

Yeah check Lowe’s or hardware store for the bolt before you cut it. Penetrating oil spray like PBlaster can help a bit. We sprayed like every other thing with it.

I have a 2004 Chevy venture. It makes a sound in the rear whenever we go over any bumps. It also makes the same rattling type noise when going 50 mph or above. I replaced the shocks. The noise improved quite a bit but is still there. I am assuming it’s the coils since shocks were replaced. What type of noise did you guys experience happening when driving?

I believe you bought heavy duty variable rate springs, not standard duty constant rate. Looking at the order page on Rock Auto, it says the heavy duty variable rate spring add 1.5 to inches of height. I am about to do the shocks during my summer vacation, 2004 Silhouette. That hole in the wheel well, is in exactly the same place. Thanks.

You are doing this the hard way. You don't need to remove the track bar, you don't need to drop the brake line bracket. It doesn't take much with an external spring compressor that you can rent for free at any auto parts store and the coils fall right out, some worn springs can be compressed and pulled out by hand. Same thing on install, even if you use the 2" lift springs commonly available.

@@jahright2806 I just did another one of these. You just need to make sure you don't pull too hard on the parking brake cable as you drop the beam. Nothing else needs to come out besides the shocks.

Great video , however the tighter coils go at the top as per the instructions.
@jahright2806
@jahright2806 3 жыл бұрын
These instructions actually said to do it this way. It varies by make. This has been an ongoing debate for several years. So you just do whatever the manufacture says I guess. The general consensus is that it doesn’t actually make any difference. Sometimes the tighter coil is smaller diameter, so they only fit one way.

Thanks for posting your video, Just an FYI for anyone else who may be replacing Venture/ Montana springs. Check your installation instruction with your new variable assist springs, the tighter wound coils should go toward the top not the bottom.

@@jahright2806 , thanks again for posting the video, it made my spring and shock change much quicker. I originally put my new springs in the way you suggested but after I was all done I found the spring instructions in the bottom of the box.. Ugh!! then I read variable springs install tight coil up.. No big deal just dropped it all back down and flipped them over. Also for anyone else doing this coil change, the rear end will drop completely down without unbolting the stabilizer bar which will save more time..
