The way passenger jets are now , pilots have zero feel , the plane is either flying or it ain’t .

Welp I was there that day after me an ol Tex were out until the last hour when the bar closed down. Yep that man was really something. One time he asked me to have "relations" with my (Ex)wife, sister and mother all at the same time and I said "Man I hope they get the job done you durn SoB". That was Tex by God, and if he wanted to be your new Dad/Uncle/Whatever, well... you just said yessir and offered to clean up the mess. Miss that ol boy I surely do.

They don’t make pilots like Tex Johnson anymore. They broke the mold with him. He helped sell thousands of 707s after that. Some are still flying to this day.
@sherry84443 күн бұрын
No airline cares about circus moves. And it looked like the plane dropped like a brick during the roll so not exactly "selling it"
@briannewman5323 күн бұрын
The aircraft simply getting off the ground with this man’s balls in it tells you all you need to know about the 707.

Back during the Barnstorming Era of Aviation 🪽 this would have been considered as part of the testing phase of flight. Fast forward to today, you'd have your licence ripped up & your wings torn off & your ego decimated.😮

What’s not stated in this clip is that Tex rolled the B-707 prototype twice. General Curtiss LeMay saw the demonstration and ordered a lot of KC-135s - some 734 of them.

If you try that with a Boeing product from 2024, you will be lucky to survive or at least you will be landing without a single door still attached. But also in the old days you got to have the skills of Tex to do it: In 1964 some ex-Nazi-hotshots now on civilian duty for Lufthansa tried it with a 720 on a training flight. The first roll did work out fine, but on the second try they achieved an in-flight-breakup and perished together with their plane. Sad case of wrong "roll-model"...

so a Skagit Valley man I met on an XC ski day to Stampede Pass said he owns a Twin Bonanza -- he had met a retired man "Al Johnston", & found out he had a pilot's license -- They go to fly it one day, & Al is given the movable "throwover" yoke to take off -- at ~40-ft elevation he starts a perfect 1G barrel roll "A coffeecup would not have spilled." says the plane owner Al then confesses his nickname was Tex, and yeah he had a "signature move"
