Don't bother with Say You Swear. It's terrible. Also, it's not a standalone. You have to read the books prior to when this came out or half the characters that are introduced in the first three chapters (and there are about 8 of them), their stories won't make any sense. My advice...put it down and pick up something better

@alexanderthom461819 күн бұрын
Let me explain why some people would be angry about people getting festive about Christmas is not due to those but rather towards retail and its non-stop playing of Christmas songs on a loop that seems to go on forever... I used to work in retail, in a fast food vendor in a food court, and in a casino as a kitchen worker hearing that music on repeat had me want not to listen to any Christmas music anymore... so please take in account if you see people hating on others that are becoming festive 51 days early are the ones that probably spent most of their young adult life in retail and spending every Christmas season for how many years listening to those songs on repeat.
@Lifewithalexajean19 күн бұрын
I completely understand the music part! I used to work in retail and I definitely got tired of Christmas music by November 10th those years lol. This was geared towards when people get angry when people start decorating early and overall feeling festive!

I really hate this difference in the Harry Potter books and movies In the books Ron was actually smart and had a lot of good ideas but the movies gave all of his good ideas to hermione’s roll and made it look like they were hermione’s ideas And with Matilda book and Matilda the musical: In the book and original movie Ms. Honey didn’t have the back story of her father and in the musical added the backstory and in my opinion it sucked. And in the musical they removed the part where Matilda and Ms. Honey broke into Ms. Trunchbull’s house and that was my favorite part

The httyd book was way better, the only things they kept the same about Toothless were: He's a dragon He's called Toothless He's owned by hiccup Here's what they changed: Now he's big instaid of small Now he's black instaid of green His looks are changed entirely He can't talk anymore He has no attitude now Now he's a night fury instaid of a common or garden dragon He's now the last of his kind EVERYTHING ELSE

For the people saying the book is always better, I propose Frank Darabonts "The Shawshank Redemption" vs. Stephen King's "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" Film is better by miles, it makes some major changes to the story, but even Stephen King thought they were good. Off the top of my head, less emphasis is placed on what crimes the different inmates have committed, humanising them further, all of the different wardens in the book are combined into one, Warden Samuel Norten, which makes the character seem significantly more evil and crooked, and gives a better development of that evil as Norten changes his methods and beliefs to capitalise on the times, which also streamlines the story and creates one central antagonist. The inclusion of an entirely original scene, the one where Andy plays a record over the PA system gives the opportunity for Andys speech about music and hope, which can't be taken from you, which sets up the scene where Andy gives Red a harmonica, symbolic of Andy giving Red new hope. There are also changes which introduce a more logical storyline, like Nortens decision to shoot Tommy over transfer him. Realistically, transferring him would raise questions, and him and Andy could still correspond via mail, so shooting him is more final and logical. It also serves to add to the stress and sadness Andy faces, as he feels responsible for the boys death, and mourns him after spending so much time together preparing for exams. This intense mourning sets up the expectation for characters and the audience that Andy has hanged himself in his cell. This better mirrors the foreshadowing presented by the mention of The Count of Monte Cristo, in which the story basically flows as the central character being wrongfully imprisoned, serving time, being wronged, escaping, and taking revenge on who wronged them. The other aspects of Andys story line up pretty well, so the death of Tommy becomes his moment where he is wronged to a point he cannot forgive, and cements his decision to escape. It also serves to further add to the wardens evil and callous nature, while also cementing him as the central antagonist. The film also just provides some of the most iconic moments in cinema, "Outta the way Mert, this fuckers 'bout to have himself an accident", "Brooks was here/So was Red", the scene with the record, the shot of Norten, Red and Hadley staring down the tunnel, the guard holding the rock hammer in the creek, etc. The one place I will admit it falls down, to me at least, is the ending. The story ultimately is about hope and institutionalisation, and Reds struggles with these. Yes, Andy is the central character, it's his story, but it's told from Red's perspective, and it's definitely his story too. Through the story Andy has no real growth, he's a clear cut man who knows his place and how far he can push the boundaries. Red does though, most noticeable through the parole hearings. Obviously at the end Red is released on parole, but his responses in those hearings indicate how his attitude changes, and he goes from the "only guilty man in shawshank" to feeling guilt and remorse for his actions, and seeing himself as being changed enough as to refer to the young Red who committed that terrible crime as nearly a different person altogether. The ideal place to end it would've been on the bus as Red says "I hope I can see my friend again. I hope", contrasting the scene before where he says "I doubt they'll throw up any roadblocks, not for an old crook like me", echoing the words of Brooks, and earlier in the film where he claims "hope is a dangerous thing, hope'll drive a man insane". These lines show that Red has a renewed sense of hope and purpose and very well may make it in the outside world, but the signs of institutionalisation are still evident, like they were with Brooks. This would be the ideal place to end it, the end of Reds arc, open ended, up for interpretation. Hopeful but uncertain. However the reintroduction of Andy in Mexico really cements Andy as the central character and detracts from those impactful words. Red no longer needs hope now, he found his friend, he made it across the border, he doesn't need hope anymore. That's my one gripe with the film, otherwise definitely far far better than the book
