I have loved Floor since After Forever, and it is incredible the things she manages to do.....BUT.......no one to this day can surpass YMA SUMAC!! YMA came from another planet!

I saw somebody else say this before and I agree wholeheartedly I'm only speaking about the Nightwish singers... Tarja was a myth in the studio, Anette was the faerie in-between and Floor is the complete fucking legend!

I think a fine example of what makes Floor special is the Ayreon live performance of "Valley of the Queens". Three gorgeous voices, from highly-regarded singers, but when Floor sings you don't just hear lyrics ... you hear a woman going to her death. It's impossible not to notice, and it's why she brings goosebumps and tears like no other singer I know of.

Don’t worry she’s not unknown, my entire country know of her (the Netherlands) as she might live in Sweden but she is Dutch. As a bonus she frequently does solo performances in the Netherlands which we can go to. I saw her here in Paleis Soestdijk in June. Everybody loves her here.

The way I put it is that she is the greatest VOCALIST of all time. Is she the best harsh style? NO. Is she the best performer? No. Is she the most energetic? No. Does she have the capability and expression of Mercury, Dio, Dickinson, Halford, Bellamy, and more all wrapped up in 1 person? HELL YES! And still be a humble, beautiful human. 🤘😎🤘

Floor is number one but I also rate Tarja in some songs equally on par with Floor.

Don't forget she can also speak and sing fluently in 6 different languages which imo puts her waay above the rest.

I am a great fan of Floor Jansen, and Floor is clearly the BEST singer in METAL and also in pop in general she leaves 98% of singers in the dust (even the Whitney Houston's, Mariah Carey's etc.). However, in Classical, Opera, Jazz and World Music there are quite a few singers who are better than Floor. And Floor is the first to admit that. When asked by a reporter: "Are you the best singer in the world", she blushed a little and say "no". When asked if she would be the best singer in Metal, she said: "maybe"...

It depends on your personal taste who is the greatest singer to you. For me it IS Floor Jansen but I respect that other people would chose another singer. I often read in comments "he/she is the greatest singer on earth" but when I listen to him/her I don't like the voice. So it may also be with Floor to other people.

Disclaimer: i love floor since more than 20 years, exactly since when AF's Decipher came out. I'm saying this in advance because i'm the biggest tarja fan out there and usually when i dare to say something about floor i get the "hater" label 😉 No, i'm not. And being tarja's biggest fan doesn't mean i have to always think she's doing it right 😉 That being said, i'm really tired of this "versatility=being the best". When brought to an extreme level it means that aretha franklin or jeff buckley weren't great singers because they didn't growl. Utterly stupid, isn't it? Have you guys ever heard Diamanda Galas? Definitely the goddess of the gods vocal-wise. But if you compare her to, let's say, Billie holiday (great influence on Galas), the latter seems to fade away at first hearing. Does the fact that holiday not even in a million years could do what galas does mean that she wasn't one of the greatest singers of all times? Now,versatility is a huuuuge gift. And floor is truly one of the best out there. But i highly doubt she could handle a 3 months tour with an average of 3-4 gigs per week where she growls for 1,5 hours like a full death metal singer. Just like when she sings classical she's totally amazing BUT quite far from a real,classical singer. Does this mean she isn't one of the best out there?! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I hope you got my point 😉 i'm just saying we shouldn't obsess with versatility.

With Nightwish she definitely shows her depth and range. What Nightwish tends not to show is her ability to soften it and take you on an emotional journey and her amazing ability to extract an Eva-Cassidy-esque gut-pinch emotional reaction. Look up 'Zangers Winner' and you'll see what I mean (then tell me if you agree!). Truly the greatest!
