Wow... that one is VERY borderline. Could you make the argument the cue tip, cueball, and blue are all in contact simultaneously causing a 'push'... maybe, but the instant call seems like the referee was going to call it a 'push' no matter what unless Ronnie shot it 180 degrees off coming off the opposite cushion.

Yeah I always wondered about this specific situation. The cue ball is literally a fraction of a millimeter away from touching and then multiple people like the referee and a player lean up against the table causing the ball to rock into contact.

The rankings are based on money won, nothing to do with points, and they are horribly skewed by the World Championship. Whilst Luca may be world champion, there's no way he's the number four best player. Darts has the same system.

There are four types of shot commonly referred to as a "push" shot: 1. The white and object balls are touching and the object ball moves when the white is hit. 2. Prolonged contact between the cue tip and white ball, giving the appearance of it being pushed rather than hit. 3. The white being struck more than once in the same shot. 4. Where there is a gap between the white and object ball, but when the white is struck the cue tip, white and object ball are all in simultaneous contact AND the path of the cue would have hit the object ball without the white in-between. 1 doesn't apply. 4 is close but seems like the cue path just wouldn't hit the blue. The final cue position does look like it's over the blue spot but the angle of the camera doesn't help. 3 I can't see a double hit. 2 slowed down it does look like a prolonged contact. It seems like the cue is still noticeably pushing the white after hitting the blue imparting side. But at full speed is looks clean. We shouldn't rely on slowmo to make a decision so overall I'm saying not a push.

It was because Ronnie held the cue for slightly too long when he played his shot! Making it a push shot. A push shot isn't always when the 2 balls follow each other. That's my perspective on it anyway

It’s a grey area for sure. We all sort of agree on it being ok as long as your not playing forward in maybe a 45° cone, regardless of simultaneous contact. The "re-free" was being very tight and I’m pretty sure he regretted it immediately. If not he’s just one of them I suppose
