This is fantastic, but no offense I kind of get the impression if you decided to quit jazz and composing to try to become a chess professional you would probably get stuck at 1850 FIDE and that would be after at least 16 months of full time training with professional coaches so I really hope you aren't considering that kind of irrational career change because you're really coming into your own as a composer

Listened to this whole series and liked this one the best. But, perhaps my ears grew in the process. Either way, THANK YOU.

This really takes me back to the 90s hentai games I used to play as a kid that had similarly jazzy scores albeit with midi brass instruments, very contemplative though was initially hard to get past the lack of upbeat drums, could definitely see a chillwave or lofi remix doing really well on spotify

Hi Ethan. Is the music available for purchase. I am very interested in performing the piece especially the 2nd movement. I was obsessed with the Wilder Sonata and performed the first movement at the NABBA brass band championships a couple years ago. Of course I am a big Alec Wilder and Joe Wilder fan. I got to meet Joe in the 90s when I was a student of David Baker at IU. Joe was in the Smithsonian band which David directed.

The music for the Wilder trumpet sonata has long been out of print. But I found in the main branch of the San Francisco public library. I am sure IU probably had a copy.

So far, my favorite of the set.

I love this. This is like listening to 21st century Hindemith except that description doesn't really do this music justice.

I played through the Hindemith trumpet sonata with Ron Miles on the road. Nice piece, one of the best Hindemith works I heard

Love it! One question though - the score at m. 50 in the tbn part says "with mute", but I didnt hear a change. What mute (if any) was used in recording?
@WhatTheKrakenKnows2 ай бұрын
great question and good ears! If you scroll down the description, though, I write, "At one point the trombone part is marked "with mute," but in the studio Mike and I decided open was better." I think in the final I will make it ossia.

@@WhatTheKrakenKnowsShame on me for not reading the description! Can't wait to hear the entire piece. Really looking forward to the CD release.

Hey John, thanks for listening! If I remember correctly, we decided to only use a mute for the last 6 bars. Tried a few different ones but settled on a Soulo bucket mute with a winter beanie stuffed inside. (It was January, haha) Just added a subtle color change.

good question! I have decided for myself that the "A" section is a sound, not a progression.
@PietroAloi2 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's a sound! He just seems to build tension and release within the D minor area. Rhythm and phrasing are everything!
