As someone who's been building little a 3d game in my spare time for nearly a year here's some advice: don't think you have to model everything yourself, especially things that have already been done over and over by other people. There are a lot of good free models available that you can then modify if need be. Otherwise in 10 years you'll still be working on this project.

Im a very new game developer as well. Something important I learned was to set up GIT to have your project files backed up, when I saw the part where you lost all your blends I thought about how that wouldn't be a big deal with revision control. Could help to save you some time in the future and its very easy to set up!

For future reference most gun receivers are an inch and a quarter wide. Look up the "gun name" measurements, blueprints, model sheets, datasheets, parts, accessories, or kits to get other sizes from. The wiki page for a gun will usually give the overall length folded, extended, and calibres. Forums are another good place to check because people will give that info out for one reason or another. Finding cartridge measurements can help when you can't find the others you need so try going from there if all else fails.

You often need a license from the gun maker to use actual named guns in games, Hence why finding the info you need on the guns is harder, they usually have the right to alter the models to their specs. You are better off just giving them a name near to the actual name to save the hassle.

Soup, there's one question i have with the guns, did you modeled them by parts like the whole model is made of different meshes? Or when creating the rig for the gun you set a vertex group for each part of it?, the reason I ask by the way is because I don't know much about the way people animate weapons =/ , hope you can help me with that question. Also keep it up, youve made awesome progress.
@soupplays3 ай бұрын
I modeled using different meshes where it made sense (mag, weapon, bullets, etc.). You then make vertex groups for each part using all of the meshes since its technically all the same model. I hope this helps!

Quads are good for sculpting 3d models, but games render models in tris. So model in quads, then triangulate them w the triangulate modifier before putting them into your game. There are ppl who could explain why really well, but I'm not one of them.
