I'm a man ...who never fails to tear up watching this scene. I watch this once a year...because it's basically the best movie ending ever. Don't we all wish we looked liked Richard Gere in his white Navy uniform?

Just an observation does not mean much but at 3:32 in the video the guy who acknowledges he crashed in the direction he was pointing is wearing an old dancing bear grateful Dead shirt. I just think going back to a place like that you might pick out what you want to wear with a purpose. Maybe, maybe not

Why don't they make movies like this anymore? Where they used actual object, stunt people, practical effects, instead relying on a bunch of CGI crap. Amazing, such a cool scene.

I am a British person, but it still stuns me how great the ceremony is for fallen soldiers or soldiers who pass away. The grace and elegance of it the way it is organised, sadly far exceeds what any British service personnel receives, whether they are decorated or not. Carry on this loving tradition people.

In case you missed it, this completes the transformation of the character Zack Mayo from a boy to a man. He was selfish, insensitive, self-absorbed and in general a real jerk. He finally grows up and becomes a man who is more sensitive, compassionate and is able to feel and express love. Unfortunately it took the death of his friend Sid to cause this transformation

Fun fact: Webber's "really useful crew" is named after the cancelled Thomas the Tank Engine musical he was going to make in the 1970s. For more information, several videos exist about the musical.

Fact: original scene in the play was based on a real incident at a french opera house in which the chandelier itself didn't fall but a weight for it did and it crushed someone. Andrew Lloyd Webber thought about if the Entire chandelier had fallen instead
