I still have my Volvo 960 - 1996 model. I purchased in brand new and been with me for all these years despite going through several BMWs and Mercs in between. It is serviced by the same people over the years and they seem to love it and want to buy it off me everytime they see it. I've done 5 trips up and down from Darwin, NT to Adelaide, SA each time 1500 kms per day two days to cover little over 3000kms from Darwin to Adelaide. Not a single problem driving through very lonely, very hot areas, not even a puncture or a cooling issue. Thank you for the video and I was very excited.

This is an excellent review! Thank you so much. These are my favorite 7series and these are the years I would want to buy if I was going to get one. The prices for these models range from $15,000 USD up to $75,000 and sometimes higher if it is low miles or the V-12 edition. Most of them for sale range from $30,0000-$60,000 depending on milage and how nice the model is. I like these year models the best. I personally like the tan interior. Some of these 7series are extremely powerful! Here in the US the 8 cylinder engine is most common in these cars. I would love to drive the V-12, maybe someday I will be so lucky. Where I live in the USA is New England. We have cold winters and slippery snowy roads. I would like to own one, and drive it every day. It would be expensive and the parts for these cars are expensive. Changing the oil is hard with the way they are designed and repairs are very very expensive! I would consider buying one with a reliable engine. At the end of the video you suggested a 760Li, I would like that too! $300,000 euro is too much for me. Hahaha. I have enjoyed all of your videos over the years, and i appreciate this video made for me. I would enjoy having a video call and getting to know eachother. Maybe someday I can be a special guest for a car review video. I can try to get a camera so we can both live stream a car review together.

Thanks for your comment, glad you liked the video. I see you are commenting quite frequent on my video's, we could setup a Google Meet or MS teams call and perhaps I can capture the screen. If you want we can set this up. The 7-series is a very good looking car and probably the best handling car from the German big saloon cars. I think the 730d has the longest track record of being reliable. Not sure how diesel is looked upon in the US, in Europe the 'climate' for diesels has been in decline since dieselgate in 2015 by Volkswagen. By the way, VW is planning to close factories so it is not going so well for the German economy or car industry as a whole at the moment. EV's are not very popular yet, only for people that need a company car because of tax cuts.

Also the e-class E 320 Coupe and E 300 Coupe from model year in the early 1990s. What is your opinion on buying one of these Benz and if you were to purchase one which one would be your first choice? I am also looking forward to comments from your other subscribers. Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and experience!!!

My family car is a South African assembled, C200K manufactured in 2003. It has the 1.8 liter M271 supercharged engine, 5-speed automatic. The car was originally used in Japan for five years and had about 20,000 kms on the odometer before being exported to Malaysia. My father purchased it in 2008 and we still use this car in 2024, clocking only 68,000 kms. My father can't drive anymore due to his advanced age and Parkinsons Disease, so I am the only one driving it for the past three years. Our Merc was generally trouble free until 2014 and then it started giving problems one after another. The car is serviced/repaired by two different garages and if the problem was urgent I would send it to the one nearest to my home. Mechanical issues: 1. The engine was slightly misfiring and we had the all four ignition coils replaced at the end of 2014. 2. In 2019 the engine starter once jammed at a relative's home on a hot afternoon, and we had to get the mechanics to come and fix the problem on the spot. 3. The foot brake release handle snapped off early this year, while the (right) driver's side door handle broke off last year. 4. The transmission makes a whine on the first three gear ratios. It made no noise during the first five years' of ownership. 5. The engine sometimes idles roughly after a cold start, but runs smoothly after it has warmed up. It never had this issue when the car was still "new" with us. 6. All front and rear shocks were finally replaced recently in 2024, along with the lower arm bars, linkages, etc. We have never had the absorbers replaced since the car was purchased. It was the most expensive bill to date. Electrical issues: 1. The driver's side air vent made a soft but annoying whooshing sound, like a vacuum pipe sucking air, whenever the car was accelerated. It was finally fixed by replacing the blower's fans and the motorized flaps. 2. The dashboard's LCD status panel doesn't display the information properly for the last five or six years. 3. The right side wing mirror's LEDs will not blink while folded which shows up as 1 malfunction on the center display. 4. The CD changer worked erratically since the air conditioner's evaporator coil was replaced in 2021 as part of the dashboard had to be dismantled. It usually shows "No CD changer" each time I press the CD button on the head unit. The only time which it _does work_ is when the battery had been exhausted and replaced with a new one. Even then, the CD changer reverts to its inoperative state after two days. 5. The alternator was replaced with a new aftermarket one in 2022 since the garage mechanics couldn't solve the electrical drain issue that's still plaguing the car to this day. 6. The steering column multi-function stalk malfunctioned in 2017 (it wouldn't stay put) and was replaced with a new one. 7. The SRS warning light stays on even while driving. This problem surfaced only recently and I was told that could be caused by brake issues. 8. The automatic headlights, in the Auto position fail to turn off when the light sensor detects sunlight in the daytime. 9. The overnight battery drain, which was first noticed in 2021 had already cost me four new 12v batteries and a new alternator. In a bid to solve the excessive battery drain problem, the electrician pulled out the fuses for the radio and the interior light. This only slowed down the parasitic battery drain and then the car would also be without interior lighting and the radio. The car is now back at the garage for the third time as the car still drained the battery in 3 days despite the interior dome lighting unplugged from its socket. As much as I like this W203, the electrical drain issues have been driving me up the wall and I'm fed up having to charge the battery at home each time it goes flat overnight. 😢 *Full disclosure:* The only mods that I have done to this W203 is to replace all the rear tail light filament bulbs with LEDs, as well as the front turn signals. Headlights and fog lamps are stock halogens and so are all interior lights. I've seen YT videos of W203/204 owners upgrading their exterior light bulbs to LEDs and their cars are fine.

My Suzuki Swift is giving me headache after headache, but i can afford the repairs and other second hand cars are even more expensive... I bought it second-hand with 197000 km on the clock with it now being 222000 km. This is my list of issues: - Light switch handle broke internally causing the front lights to not come on. - ABS pump fail. Turned out it was already broken when i bought it, but the previous owner made a botchjob by wiring the rear left brake to the rear right brake. ABS pump and brake booster were replaced. - wishbone rubbers in the front were worn out and had to be replaced. I chose to completely renew the wishbones in the front including the ball joints. - Center and rear exhaust muffelers were worn and rusted and were replaced. - Right front speaker broke due to corroded connectors. Entire speaker was replaced. - Backlight instrument panel for fuel and temperature often ain't working. Choosing to leave that as is. Don't really need that info as much as the speedometer. - Timing chain needs replacing. That will be done asap. - Gearbox will be overhauled soon, including a completely new clutch while were at it. The bearing is starting to become worse... - Starter motor is becoming worn out. Is on the list to be replaced but is not a priority. - Due to a lack of service history it recently got a complete service with every little detail checked. All the filters were changed, engine- and gearbox oil was changed, wipers were replaced, tires were replaced, brake fluid was replaced, foggy headlights were cleaned up, a bit of rust on a brakeline was checked and cleaned, spark plugs were changed, AC received a full service and the car was deep cleaned. Luckily the garage owner is a collegue of mine which means i usually pay half of what things would normally cost. This means i will do the timing chain and gearbox overhaul despite the high cost. There is no sign of rust on the car so i am planning to keep it for a couple more years!

To the comment on the top newer cars are far more difficult to fix than this. I have fixed my 960 several times and is a sweetheart to fix is just so easy and i can eat dinner on yhe engine bay while fixing it. There are still parts available. The one to have now i think is the 850 wagon turbo. 859 parts are plentiful and the car is east to fix too. But the 960 is a blast to drive due to the rear wheel drive.

there were a couple of versions: 1.3 92hp 1.3 90hp 4x4 all wheel drive this was only made in japan but some made it to europe second hand market 1.3 diesel - its a diesel from Fiat, not bad if you do many many miles but the petrols are better 1.5 102hp 1.6 125hp (this was the swift sport) The training rental cars on the Nurnburgring Nordschleife (aka green hell), IMO the best race track in the world use unmodified Swift Sports so that tells you something about how much abuse these cars can handle. You can rev them on the redline all day long and still run 300-500k kms without major issues (same cannot be said about the transmission but its not expensive to fix that) Unbeatable cars for the price point.
@renevanleeuwen9836Ай бұрын
I just buy one ..why the 1.6 8 v bgu / bse avoid??its a very robust engine,with a belt ...and can run easily 450.000;km...i think you just have to avoid the fsi and early tfsi engines.....its just that car dealers ask 1200 euros extra for the normal 1.6....because it is super reliable and economic engine...
@maxfactor4209Ай бұрын
Do not fall for them. They were reliable in their first 7 to 10 years of life but now they are money pit cancer. yeah, I also very much like the idea of a mint 90s Volvo or Saab but I know firsthand that they come with serious engine and gearbox issues. If you want to get an old car, try Japanese cars.
@MrChruschtiАй бұрын
I wouldn't say they are unreliable today but they tend to have issues with hydraulic lifters or cracks in the block or as you said, problems with the transmission. I think the problem is that the resale value is so low that people neglect maintenance and leave more expensive repairs to the next owner. So, if you buy one, get one with a documented history and check the usual 960 problems before you buy it. Buying Volvo Parts is not cheap and they are getting rare for the 960...
@EEPRODUCTIONSKLBАй бұрын
@@MrChruschti The car went out of production 26 years ago, the Volvo community is big and there are replacement parts available, but not always OEM. I think a 960 is a beautiful car but a potential money pit indeed.
@uniqu3xperience965Ай бұрын
I wouldn't say unreliable. I have been keeping mine alive for over 13 years with minimal mantaince. There are parts still available. The gearbox is actually the same as the 90s lexus LS and th3 straight 6 was designed by porsche. The car is simple to work and last time I did water pump and timing belt took me 2 hours. My wifes mercedes e320 I consider more difficult to work on. I changed my front bearings in 30 minutes. Is a blast to drive on the highway and the locking rear diff makes it unstoppable in the snow.
