These children would be shocked to know how little is being done by Colorado Springs Utilities to protect their water. 975 N Academy Blvd The Citadel Crossings is still hemorrhaging water at a incredible rate even after being reported several times over a month ago. Sorry kids but the more water that is wasted the more money Colorado Springs Utilities makes so no point in fixing problems that make them money. Children shouldn't be lied to.

Colorado Springs Utilities has had ample time to do something about the horrific amount of water being wasted at 975 N Academy Blvd .The Citadel Crossing . You have done nothing . Sickens me to my stomach knowing how ineffective and corrupt CSU has become . Clearly there is more profit in pretending to conserve water than there is in actually conserving water. Conservation team if they even exist have failed. CSU is not part of our community they are part of what is wrong with our community. I have no reason to believe anything said by CSU since we have been lied to for so long. A century of disservice would be more accurate

Can you clarify what you meant when you described natural gas as having price stability in your recent blog post? For day to day folks, the last couple years of expensive natural gas have felt like the exact opposite.

This is a wonderful historical connection! With the high winds last week, I had friends and family all over the front range suffering from prolonged power outages, but Colorado Springs was rock solid. I love bragging about how reliable and forward-thinking our municipal utilities are compared to the privately owned for-profit alternatives some of our neighbors have. The history that got us here is worth remembering <3 and celebrating!

Very exciting to see this. Assuming it ends up being close to $0.028 / kWh, that's a lot of locked in cheap electricity we'll have for the next ~30 years. And it' comforting to know that whatever fluctuations we see in the natural gas market will have much less of an impact on our household budgets here. We need more solar though, let's keep it up!

To what extent did this plant come in to play two years ago during the big freeze when natural gas prices skyrocketed? If we have this plant to help us during these times then why did CSU customers pay dearly for the big freeze?
@SpringsUtilities
@SpringsUtilities 6 ай бұрын
The function of this plant is to help mitigate even higher costs during extreme winter weather conditions, but it cannot insulate us completely from having to buy on the market during peak demand weather. The bottom line, however, is we're much better off with the propane air plant than without it. Back in 2021, during winter storm Uri, we used this plant, but the unique conditions and duration of that weather event still required us to buy natural gas on the market to ensure we could meet customer demands. Uri introduced unique dynamics across the U.S. that caused natural gas market prices to skyrocket due to restrictions in supply and high demand. This meant that utilities who distribute natural gas to their customers - like us -- paid extraordinarily high fuel costs and, in turn, passed those costs on to their customers. In our case, the storm caused $144 million in unexpected expenses. The good news is that based on what we're seeing currently, we do not expect this weekend's arctic blast to have the same level of impact on natural gas markets. - Steve

That's great! I do have concerns about the city's electrical grid failing from age. What is the plan to address that?
@SpringsUtilities
@SpringsUtilities 9 ай бұрын
Hi Kevin, we do not yet know if age was a factor in what happened on Kiowa Street. What we do know is that it was a very unique situation and something we've rarely seen occur on our electric system. With a rapidly changing energy industry -- both from a technology and regulatory perspective -- we are actively pursuing several electric grid projects (such as substation and transmission line expansions and upgrades) to enhance the resiliency and reliability of our electric system to reflect growing demands and technological advancements. These projects are part of our Sustainable Energy Plan - www.csu.org/Pages/SustainableEnergyPlan.aspx. Additional information on how we're planning our community's energy future can be found in one of our recent blogs www.csu.org/Pages/Blog/A-quest-to-diversify-our-energy-future.aspx. - Diana

Great documentary on the rescue procedure. But that doesn’t really make me optimistic: how long does the fire brigade need to arrive on scene and reach the victim with the SCBA? How long can you survive without oxygen? When working in a dangerous space with vertical access: always wear your harness with lanyard picked in an tripod rigged. It will safe your life!
