Now I know what NHL 3.5 or NHL 5 stands for! An excellent video, from which I learned a lot even though I've been using lime for a while.

I appreciate this content. I have a 1900s Baltimore row house and someone repointed the entire house with cement. I am undertaking a massive restoration project to ensure the building lasts.

Truly magnificent and rich with history. I appreciated and felt the narrator's enthusiasm and love for the building.

I frankly say, the Jon Hiseman and Barbara Thompson were one of the nicest couple imaginable; although I never met them, respectively only saw them occasionally on stage, you can tell that they were wonderful people and surely must have gotten well along with each other.

0:44 Way back then, trying to cope with the divorce of her parents and having to live with a stepmother (which no child really likes....), she picked up the clarinette. Today they pierce themselves and run around with LGTB - bags.

Is the red sand a sharp sand in your lime putty mix. I wish to point a brick wall and would prefer a redder mix. If so could you tell me what the sand is and where i can get it from please.

1397 they did not invent saw pits . this is another one of these vids where so called experts pretend to now . i have been in conservation for 35 plus years actually making a living doing it not talking nonsense.

This guy also makes a living doing it, this video series is related to his restoration work on Union Chapel in London. Your comment comes off as insecure edit: after doing 20 mins of research online I've found evidence of pitsaw technology being used by the romans. stands to reason, it's obviously a very primitive method. who's the fake expert now?
@barrypeers8665
@barrypeers8665 2 ай бұрын
@@ParsleyPunch pit saws are not primitive as you claim the were first used by cabinet makers and furniture makers in the late 17th century for cutting boards . adzes and draw knives were used previously .the timbers being used were split into shape also on medevil ships just the sapwood was removed as it encouraged pests . most left in the round .the technology of the sawpit is not roman what so ever . have a great day expert .

always apply with the lats not the opposite as it makes the overlap on the back of the lats very in consistant extra weight .using less .

I am overwhelmed by the amount of information....i have very much interest in this field...like this is my favourite thing...also i live in kolkata,India...which itself is a city full of heritage buildings so I always think that how can we conserve thse buildings so that they remain as same as when they were built hundreds of years ago...VERY PLEASED FROM THIS VIDEO ... LOTS OF LOVE AND BLESSINGS TO THE TEAM❤

Anyone got thoughts on Jacobean daub as plaster? The place we're restoring has quite a lot of what looks like hemp shiv, as well as clay and hair. At the end of the day, suspect it doesnt really matter - more a questionnof thebtexture and colour once dried...

Hello wanted to ask, in your opinion is possible to use cement (for better setting) with hydrated lime and sand (0,5:1:5 ratio) for rendering a brick wall layed with lime mortar, as it is quite difficult to find hydraulic lime in our region? Or even small amounts of cement will trap moisture, make wall unbreathable and ruin the bricks? Kind regards

Really enjoyed this, took me back to when I was an apprentice. If you use the soot surely this would cause sulphate salt contamination of the mortar and bring with it issues you get in and around chimney breasts?

Stick a decent sized stone in your mixer and that acts to squeeze and work your mix. You’ll go through the odd mixer barrel but you’ll save a whole lot of work!

I remember when lime wasn't available in fine agregate in bags like today.Actualy it was but it was very expensive.Then people were buying lime in form of stones and they dig hole in ground and put all that stones in it and then pour water on it and it was nasty.Later you have something like white soapy lime and you simply grab out of hole how much you need and mix with sand and you have excellent mortar which last forever.

Love love your videos. I've worked as a carpenter in Canada for over 2 decades and this type of knowledge is not something that is taught in my lifetime, at least not here. Even though I've worked on many old houses which required this type of knowledge to properly repair.

Spawling we call it and it’s everywhere. Unfortunately in a monetised society we can only advise owners on the best methods of repair, ultimately its cost that wins out.

Very interesting and informative video. I use Lime for pointing and rendering up here around the Lake District on Substrates like Slate, walling Stone etc and now having a bit of experience with it, the skill is in the prep and time, it’s a patient skill and is not a one size fits all approach. Gable ends, Church Towers and floors are my usual jobs. Your videos are some of the best I’ve seen on this subject. Thanks.
