Awesome - H-Bridge SSTC or SGTC Imagine with that power and the lack any other distinguishing factors it not a rotary spark gap type ? Power of a DRSSTC🤔

Please share the circuit with us, what is the use of looking at energy being blown of into space, maybe we can find a good use for it.

I was privileged to know Jim Hardesty, in Trumansburg, NY from 2002 - 2016. An avid experimenter and innovator who gave life to many unique pieces of early electrical aparatus. RIP JIM HARDESTY.

Great looking coil! I think the discharge has just the right amount of branching to length. Well done!

Nice video, just the right amount of background light. Good focus to. Works way better than my small coil.

Did the same thing on a lathe with #36 wire only fed it by hand, very tedious!

Ah, the old stuff at work! That machine will last another century. Unlike some of the flimsy contraptions sold today.

They were not safe at all. I used one in the 70's and it burned my face off! If I hadn't been wearing goggles I would have been permanently blind!

OMG...... We weren't aware of this video, it brings back great memories of a wonderful time and superb friends. We recently acquired another X-Ray tube collection, where do I put it on display?? We are currently on the hunt for one our videos we did in 1995 titled "In Quest of the Light". Jim and I produced about 125 of this VHS video that celebrated 100 years of the discovery of the X-Rays.😀 Jeff----Thanks for posting this 1992 video! Jim & Felicia RIP Jim Hardesty

Jim I am still interested in your catalogues! Trail of invisible light! Frank Jones has the video, I will find it for you and digitise it. Priceless. Judy called just last week, I will ask her too.

Did you copy this from a CED? The artifacts are not typical of VHS, and iirc the CED players rendered two frames per revolution..

I really enjoy watching both Bill Alexander and Bob Ross. I find their contrasts very much complement their similarities. Bill was faster, more frenetic, and more spontaneous, while Bob was more relaxed, deliberate, and methodical. But what they both in equal measure produced was memorable and truly remarkable. Their differences in temperament make the technique just that much more interesting. I would urge anyone who wants to pursue and master this style of painting to watch both of these immensely talented creative geniuses.

Yes, there is a flame- the flame is from burning carbon. The small nichrome wire resistor behind the electrodes is the ballast.
