@@djkovu Are you familiar with the thermodynamic properties of a tropical cyclone? Actually better yet, define Hurricane.
@trainfanatic4083 Жыл бұрын
@@djkovu Hello there. I sort of remember this storm. It hit the UK on October 28th before reaching Denmark and was dubbed as the 'St Jude's Day Storm'. In culture, the term 'hurricane' or 'orkan' is often used informally to describe any violent storm that produces hurricane-force winds. But from a meteorological standpoint, the storm in this video is NOT actually classed as a hurricane. Meteorologically speaking, hurricanes can only form in the tropics (usually close to Africa, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean area) and their structure is far different from windstorms that affect Europe. For example, hurricanes display a circular structure when viewed from outer space, and they have inner and outer rainbands, a well-defined eye with an eyewall structure that surrounds it, and have no cold or warm fronts. The storm in this video would actually be classified as an 'extratropical cyclone' because it's a cyclonic storm that formed outside the tropics, has no 'eye' structure or an eyewall. If you look at the satellite images of a hurricane and compare it to an extratropical cyclone, the structures are completely different. That's why hurricanes are referred to as 'tropical cyclones' whilst windstorms like this video are referred to as 'EXTRAtropical cyclones'.

I'm Not sure it was a Hurricane or just Straight-line winds. Probably not a Hurricane because the winds are not Circulating and also they are far away from the ocean. Hurricanes loose their punch once they move over Land. So Probably a Straight-line wind event.

Denmark is er very very smale country in northen Europe, all surrounded by sea, it was a hurricane for sure, even weather forecast
@mlazenka13 жыл бұрын
@@djkovu Hurricanes form in the tropics and are structured differently than storms in the mid and high latitudes. They need water temperatures of at least 27 C to form and maintain their strength. The heat feeds them and they're core is warm. In Oktober the average water temperature around Denmark is 12.5 C, far too chilly to support a hurricane. What you had was a cyclone that produced hurricane force winds. Cyclones in the high latitudes are fueled by temperature differences and are said to be cold core systems. The storm you experienced may have had it's origins in the tropics, but it transitioned to "extra tropical" long before it made it to the UK let alone Denmark. Great footage by the way.
