I can relate to this, seeing as I am also a Makomborero Zimbabwe Student. It was in December 2015 when we had these house visits. I was so anxious just wondering what it is they would ask me during the house visit. All I wanted was a chance to get a sponsorship for my A level and stand a chance to study engineering. My mother insisted that I wear my school uniform, lol. I had to get the Makomborero team from the local shopping center so that they would not get lost trying to find my house and upon meeting them, their friendly faces relaxed me and from then on it was a smooth sail. One thing I still distinctively remember during that trip home is that I got to hear a person apologize to a car for the first time in my life. So, the thing is, Mr. Albertyn was the one driving and he hit a curb while trying to avoid one of the many potholes that were in the road and Mrs Albertyn said "Oh, sorry, Car!" and we all burst out laughing though my laughter had some guilt hidden behind it. It was at that moment that I was fully relaxed and no longer anxious. The home visit was great, and the team comprised of Mr. and Mrs. Albertyn, Mrs. Chikowore and the House mother/matron. What really got to me was the waiting period after the home visit, I would literally jump to reach my mother's phone whenever it rang and would feel utter disappointment and some hate for whoever had called and not been the Makomborero team🤣🤣🤣. The call that I received to confirm my acceptance into the Makomborero family is probably one of the happiest calls of my life. Ever since then, I have been immensely blessed and supported by the Makomborero family. I have nothing but eternal gratitude to God and the Makomborero Family for shining a ray of light and hope into what seemed like a hopeless life to me. I can only pray that the Makomborero family keeps growing and growing unto eternity. I love you all, Makomborero Family, Alumni, donors and Sponsors.
