I just found a 1976 Dawes galaxy that's in great condition paid £69 for it almost completely original I'm seriously made up with it. Just needs a little bit of rust removed and treated. I have a brooks saddle but it has an original saddle on it so not sure if I want to change that.

Haha, yep, couldn't hold it all steady. Even the dog came to help at one point! It was a long battle but worth it!

Errm, oops, slight miscalculation folks. Grand total is not £12'517, its is in fact £11'317. My bad, poor maths! Still, £11'317 is absolutely incredible, well done all of you!!

Maybe when you were in Whitby you described as North East UK you underestimated Scotland? North East UK is not the same as North East England! I am in North East Scotland very much North East UK ,Whitby is several hundred miles south of me in Central East UK ! Sorry to be nit picky , maybe you see why we want out of this UK Brexit Empire crap if English think NE England is the same as NE UK when it's clearly not ? However i do like your Super Galaxy made in England.

My apologies, this was almost 2 years go now, I may have unintentionally said "North East UK" when meaning "North East England". Sorry if I did this. Fully aware of the geograhical location of Whitby and North East Scotland. Definitely not the same thing. North East England can be cold and rough but North East UK (Scotland) much wilder and more remote. Apologies for any unintentional offence caused. Glad you like the bike 👍

Well done. I was lucky with my 1987 Super G that i have just completed. Quill and seatpost were both completely free. Mind you, one of the crank bolts was seized and had to be drill out and re tapped and the same with a rear derailleur set screw! So these old bikes will get you somehow. You can see the start and finish here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/foCahHigiLqbipI John

Funnily enough, I'm just having it serviced after a year of use and the crank bolt is fully seized! Going to have to either weld it to a rod to remove or grind off the crank to remove it! You're right, they'll get you one way or another!

You’re a lucky man! The amount of times that lift has been out of order is unreal. Carrying your fully laden bike up the longest ‘wooden’ escalator in the world is no picnic!

the worst seized head stem I had I used a forklift to pull it apart along with refrigeration gas being flushed though the stem to cool it as being aluminum it shrinks more than the steel

Lovely S.G. It's a 1997 though not 1992. (The decals are a give away). Good luck on your ride.
@cycleforchangejames2 жыл бұрын
Had ot checked by a bike shop last week. Definitely a 92, still has a 1991 Dawes security sticker on it (presumably an old one when applied). 97's look very similar but have a few more modern touches.
@leehyson98312 жыл бұрын
@@cycleforchangejames Wow that's a right surprise. Dawes must have stuck with the same frame details and decals for about 5year then. My 1997 is exactly the same. Happy touring James :)
@tilla773 жыл бұрын
Looks fantastic. I would say its almost the perfect touring bike. Tried and tested for decades. Just acquired a silver frame from that exact year and can't wait to build it
