Why do the other Customers transloads their freight?? very Sad
@tracksidebcproductionsofficial29 күн бұрын
It's unsafe to exceed 5-10 MPH anywhere on the line and there are a couple unsafe bridges and all the other customers were located in different towns so it would make more sense to transload at the yard rather than run to the customer and have it take 16+ hours to complete. Back when they couple run 25 mph, they could get a train down to Duncan and back within 8 hours or so.

@ I thought so. But I don’t know a whole lot about trains. I like them. But I know very about the technical aspects of them. Also. Do you know why they often have two engines with like 6 cars behind them? It seems like a lot of overkill. I like some overkill when moving big weight as trains can. For safety margins. @@tracksidebcproductionsofficial The economics were bad. The last train ran in 2010. VIA, which owns the Budd Cars, pulled them off because the track was too bad. In the last year it cost over 2 million to operate and carried 32,000 passengers at $30 average fare collected. Service could not be resumed until the track was brought up to Class 3 standards. The cost to do this today is around $300 million plus 1.2 million for every crossing control which brings the total to over 400 million.
@tracksidebcproductionsofficialАй бұрын
@@julianfell666 last train was in March of 2011 and freight operations outside of Nanaimo followed soon after with the last train being sometime in late 2014. For the past 10 years all train operations have been stuck in Nanaimo. The bare minimum cost is $400 million. But to bring proper modern freight and passenger services to the island, we're looking at upwards of a billion dollars (including new rail crossing intersections). Yes, realistically we could do it for $400 million. But if this the railway is going to be a rebuilt and last, a lot of money will have to be invested into it. If we're going to just do the bare minimum, we might as well just leave it in the state that it's in. Projects that are worth doing are going to cost a lot of money, and this project is worth doing. It's just going to take a lot of time, patience and cost a lot of money.

The Canadian Pacific Railway was given a large strip of land on the east side of Vancouver Island so they could install a rail road system.Now this system is almost none existant 8 miles you say for 2 rail car deliveries per week.I would think there is a better use for this land. The cost to bring this rail system back into service is huge.Maybe a HOV lane one way to Victoria from Duncan help that traffic congestion.
@johncox22845 ай бұрын
I disagree. The rail corridor needs to be preserved for commuter service in the future. An HOV lane will be quickly made obsolete by increased traffic. Just make a trip to Seattle and see how the HOV lanes on I-5 are at a standstill during rush hour
