The ban hinges on off-label use being an "unacceptable risk", which is weird seeing as according the the Government's guidance on off label medicine "‘Off-label’ use of medicines is fairly common, particularly in children, as most medicines are tested first in adults and conducting studies in large numbers of children can be difficult." Weird how his decision is the literal opposite of the guidance it is his job to oversee. As a note - this guidance is intended for everyone who works in healthcare. That include the CHM who advised Wes, every medical professional who responded to the consultation, Cass, and Wes himself. Meaning there is no excuse for no-one among them to have piped up with "Uhhhh isn't off-label use kinda normal? And also a sign that it's not unsafe?" especially as the next section is about how "off-label" does not mean risky and unsafe.

Odd omission in here - Rainbow Laces is run by Stonewall. I bring this up because a few episodes ago, you ran a story about Stonewall dropping the campaign. This was the story about Stonewall removing some webpages - one was about their GRA campaign. The other wasn't removed - being the Rainbow Laces campaign.

Oooh I liked that you sneaked in the Streets of Rage titles music there for Action Alley. On the birth certificate - the only reason it's not possible for them to correct it themselves is purely out of spite for trans people because trans people used to be able to just show up to the registry office say "excuse me, I think you'll find this is wrong" and get it corrected.

If I understand things properly, the LGB Alliance advocates for policies in violation of the Council of Europe and international human rights law as set out in the Yogyakarta Principles and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which are binding and all signatory nations are obligated to uphold. We need to consider taking our rights to the ICC or ICJ

Loved London Trans Pride, didn't make it to the end with the march, I'm not too well right now, was glad to march with the accessibility block and the stewards saw me comfortably sat down with some friendly people in a pub near Piccadilly when I had to drop out. Loved the drums and brass band!

On the s***ides, a particular note that was not included is that the rates are orders of magnitude greater than the general population. These are kids already under great mental strain between wait lists, being denied _timely_ care, bullying, and being used as a political football. Having the last shred of hope taken away only makes this worse. I can't remember the exact number, but it is something in the order of one single s***ide in *the entire operational existence of GIDS* puts them over the national average for one year. 16 in 6 years is not just significant, is should be cause in itself to ask WTF GIDS is doing and why they are failing these kids so badly. That this is a psychiatric treatment facility failing them in this way only makes that worse, because they should know better.

"antidepressants/antianxiety meds... untested" I agree it's absurd they want to jump to something like this. And I could agree that formally it's untested. But personal experience, the anecdote of a vast swathe of the trans community, and no doubt, our medical records... would show that this approach *has* been tested, and it is a non-starter. Many trans folks are on antidepressants, are on anti anxiety meds. It just doesn't touch it. So often, "treatment resistant depression" and "treatment resistant anxiety", turn out, for the unrealised trans person... to be gender issues. And for *some*, after all those different meds that failed to make it move at all.. a little bit of social transition or even starting HRT just.. like a switch, improves their situation.

with that horsecart analogy.. what this change in guidance will do, what it is likely intended to do.. is control numbers. They don't want primary school children realising they are trans. They don't want secondary school children questioning gender in any but the most extreme circumstances. It is precisely to reduce the numbers of recorded trans youth and claim "we've won against the social contagion and restored rates to those of only true transexuals." This guidance specifically means that only those with immense distress and understood/unrepressed desire to be another gender will be referred to a GIDS-like service, because they will be the only ones to stumble upon the issues, within a primary school environment. Those who like myself encounter distress, understand they would rather be with the girls, but don't quite understand what that means but think *they are all alone and weird for it* will.. remain in the shadows, and might only *start* to catch on later on. It also means that only in a secondary school environment will the possibility of "sex change" enter into the public knowledge sphere of students. Which will then *appear* to show that people are only starting to question gender identity as part of puberty, and "oh that's a natural phase for some people going through puberty". Only during secondary school education will people become aware that gender reassignment is possible, and this will inevitably result in a surge of students that realise it's right for them. It.. canonises the story you hear from trans memoirs, that people are introduced into what others have achieved, and realise in that instant it's what they want. Not realising that many of these memoirs come from a time when knowledge of trans people was either sparse or restricted. Regardless.. it creates an uptick in GIDS-like service referrals during secondary school, and you end up with these two "perfect" cohorts, those that against all odds have been aware of their transness and seeking guidance from GIDS since they were young children, and the others who realised as part of puberty. Oh, and in fairness, it will reinforce the third cohort too, those that only realise in adulthood when the world is at their fingertips and they find the knowledge that was hidden from them through schooling. Guidance like this is seeking to make the categorising and boxing of trans people easier. They want to make the lines between the different groups of trans people more obvious. And I would not be surprised if, should they be allowed to continue down that path, we see a reestablishment of archaic gender reassignment practices where the first cohort above is the only one taken seriously, with the other cohorts being of descending acknowledgment - the second cohort facing extended scrutiny and directed more towards conversion therapy, and the third just being directed straight to conversion therapy. The government, as it stands.. wants to make the process a sieve that only the *truest* of transexuals get through and get actual trans healthcare for. And yes, I know i've repeatedly used the older term, transexuals, throughout this comment. I have my thoughts on the use of the term legitimately, i'm not against it, nor am I against the term transgender, But I'm not talking about myself or my preferences. I am using the word transexual in this comment to get across the medicalisation and outdated perspective of those that seek to implement this guidance. They do not like, or even really wish to acknowledge the more modern words, they don't take transgender seriously. They see being trans as a negative medical condition and very much would wish to address it in a more archaic, medical manner. These people, do not grant trans folks even the most basic level of respect to use the terms we as a community use for ourselves.

Correction on the Jewish Sabbath - it starts on Friday at sundown and ends Saturday evening, so it's worth discussing this in work policies if you have a 9-5 monday-friday, as some may have religious obligations e.g. in Winter when sundown is about 3pm that wouldn't have been an issue further South. And an important note on the "single sex provision in the Equality Act": This is not a thing. It does not exist. No matter how much GCs claim otherwise, it is not a thing. The Equality Act is anti-discrimination law, if it had clauses in there that required discrimination, then it would need repealing immediately. What it has in there is a *potential* legal defence. The law acknowledges that it is undeniably discrimination to treat a trans woman differently to cis women, however in extreme circumstances where every effort has been made to accommodate everyone, a judge *might* let it slide on a case by case basis. e.g. if a DV shelter has 2 spaces in a shared accommodation, the shared accommodation only has glass walls, and two women come at the same time. One is trans, one is cis, and there is literally no other accommodation available, it's impossible to cover the transparent walls, and the cis woman goes has an extreme psychological reaction on seeing the trans woman. In that case, the judge *might* rule that it was acceptable to kick the trans woman out in favour of the cis woman due to there being no alternative. That's what "proportional" and "legitimate aim" mean. It doesn't mean "yeah but some women have *concerns*".

not even just "patient discrimination against NHS staff" - it could straight up result in attempts to force people to reveal confidential medical information. Like no, you don't get to force the hospital to tell you whether or not someone is trans. That's not information you are owed. You can assume someone is trans all you like, but noone should be under any obligation to state that, to confirm it, or anything.

Do those who reject the results of the Cass Review have anything to say about the systematic reviews carried out in Scandinavia and Europe in countries like Finland and Sweden? They came to the same conclusions. Many european countries have stopped giving hormones or doing surgeries on minors. Are they all just transphobic?

You mean the reviews in Finland and Sweden that have been widely criticized by scientists, academics, human rights and health organisations and the families of trans people? Those reviews? Yes, it very much does seem like transphobia is the motivating factor behind those reviews.

I am not sure you have read the report. On suicide, for example, she considered all the viable scientific studies and found that suicidality was not at the high rate(ie 48%), so often quoted. That figure, so widely promoted, is actually based on a study of just 27 people.

The UK is considered a hostile country for trans people especially for trans children (Madrigal-Borloz, Citation2023). Trans healthcare under the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) has long been criticized for causing harm to trans people, with reports of pathologization, coercion and harm in NHS healthcare services (Horton, Citation2022d, Citation2022a; Pearce, Citation2018). Since the launch of the Cass Review in 2020, the situation for trans children in the UK has continued to decline (Madrigal-Borloz, Citation2023). In 2022 the UK Minister for Health called for clinicians to look for evidence of “what has caused children to be trans,” citing the Cass Review to claim that “identifying as trans” is likely to be a response to “child sex abuse” (Milton, Citation2022). The Cass Review was cited by the British government to justify plans to exclude trans people from legislation to ban conversion therapy (British Psychological Society, Citation2022) Despite the incredibly strict requirements for existing research to be considered in the systematic reviews, the final report trades freely in citations of poor quality or/and politically motivated work, and even incorrectly cites literature in order to support their desired outcome. The report repeatedly cites Ken Zucker (1985)[11] to support its assertions about the number of people who regret transition. Zucker is widely known for his heavily criticised claim that 80% of young people ‘desist’ from being trans, as well as his use of practices likened to conversion therapy. They back this up with Thomas Steensma’s (2013)[12] study on factors associated with desistance and persistence. Steensma has clarified publicly that the study should not be used to calculate rates of persistence or desistance[13], as its research design (aimed at studying characteristics of persisting trans patients) risks inflating the number of desisters. The Cass Report uses it to do just this several times. It's a terrible review written by people with anti trans bias and relies on bad science.

puberty blockers are dangerous and shouldnt be given to any children or teens. our bodies need to develop with the proper hormones associated with our sex. that is facts and stating otherwise is denial of reality and harmful to the health of real humans. multiple of these (pretty risky & experimental) SRS surgeries cant even be DONE (resulting in even more experimentation) if the body does not develop fully and properly with the sex hormones they are born with
