Great thoughts Brent. You make good points and all effect the hobby of collecting in one way or another. Baseball use to be the main sport and kids fell in love with it. Today there are many other interests taking away from baseball and more specifically collecting. There may not be a quick fix but MLB needs to find a way to make Baseball great again and it doesn't have anything to do with their selling more stuff at a much higher price. The players also have something to do with this. They have to play the game as the old veterans did who played for the love of the game, not money.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Brent, and you make a lot of fair points, I think the hobby, is as great as we choose to make it. I agree and resonate with the enjoyment part as well. My Dad was a collector back in the day, and passed it down to me. A lot of parts, which you mention of, the hobby as changed also. With the grading. The ''thrill of the chase'' for 1/1 cards, or low numbered cards, etc. I do wonder, if current but, also future collectors will ever appreciate collecting, just for the sake of collecting. But I think, it may be dwindling down, and I do have some legit concerns, that the hobby will further turn into a money laundry scheme, which is probably why some collectors don't love or trust grading. Turning cardboard into cash. We'll see what happens I guess.

Thanks Andrew and good points. I am concerned in the same ways. Hopefully everything will turn out ok.

Thank you for showing your Monarch card collection. I visited the Negro League Hall of Fame in Kansas City last year and became instantly fascinated with the stories of NLB players and their history. There were unfortunately no NLB cards made during that time for today’s collectors to collect. At today’s prices if they had the value would be astronomical and unaffordable for most or all collectors. Monarch does a great job depicting NLB player cards (Satchell Paige, Cool Papa Bell, Josh Gibson, and others not as well known) and is a great alternative for anyone wanting to collect a big part of baseball’s⚾️ pastime.🙂
