Strap a 55 gallon drum full of water on the back for counter balance.

Looking at a similar 453..for same purpose...looks doable to me, and fits in the all important budget.

This is my first attempt at doing a restoration. I have been watching several restoration channels, and thought maybe it would be fun to try myself. This Nylint Crane was given to me by a local owner of a thrift shop to try my talents out on. Her only request was that she wanted it back no matter what condition it was in when I finished it. I hope she will be pleased with the results. Will post part 2 as things progress

With proper forks and no bucket that log would be two feet closer to the machine, no need for extra back weight, also a little oil on the lifting pedal swivels would help to make easer smoother control.

How much do you think that log weighs?

I'd say in her defense, for the size of that log and the amount of horse power she got under the hood, she's doin' a pretty dang good job. Just chain a barrel of dirt to her ass and she'll lift that timber.

Or take the bucket off so the weight can be closer to the machine.

You just need to weld a counterweight on the back.
