A *very* interesting note for those that don’t understand French as it is spoken in greater Montreal, and the southern portion of Quebec: there is subtle, contextual nuance within this song’s lyrics-particularly the hook-that gives it a specific meaning, unique only to that region. Forgive me if my spelling and punctuation are incorrect, but in the track’s original French iteration, I believe the hook is sung as follows: _Bleu! Blanc! Rouge!_ _Hier, aujourd’hui et demain_ _Bleu! Blanc! Rouge!_ _Le Canadien, Le Canadien!_ Dedicated and clever as they are, fans of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens would be too coy and/or playful to openly acknowledge this, but scholars, linguists, historians, and personalities of the professional sporting world have agreed-with nearly universal endorsement-that anywhere *outside* its region of origin, the most accurate translation of the song’s refrain would be as follows: _Dive! Flop! Whine!_ _Court favor with le official_ _Pout! Cry! Sigh!_ _Disgrace your team’s logo and heritage!_ I’m a little shaky on the outro. I couldn’t find any clear-cut consensus on its meaning, but as best I can piece it together, after the last _dive-flop-whine,_ I’m pretty sure it’s either: _Play Euro-fútbol on le ice_ Or, _Routinely claim to have been victimized, despite video evidence to le contrary._ I always get a kick out of the collective effort of Canadiens fans to pretend this isn’t true-well done! I can’t imagine the effort you must have to orchestrate continuously to perpetuate the joke. *Note:* if you find any of what I’ve posted above to be offensive and/or demeaning, and you feel an urge to report my comment or become argumentative, please first remember that *there is such a thing as good-natured sports fan rivalry.* Sports are fun, every team _and fan base_ has its flaws, and it’s perfectly okay to overtly satirize their public behavioral stereotypes. In short, learn to laugh at yourself, because doing so is an essential to any claim to have a sense of humor.

Let me guess, you're a Bruins fan?
@noneprovided689 Жыл бұрын
@@mayavenuemisfit814 Yup. However, I do realize this means a few things: •I’m a functionally illiterate, classless, obnoxious, doofus alcoholic who espouses antagonistic arrogance towards virtually all other fan bases. •I contend that all officials are perpetually out to screw Boston teams (whose players have never been to blame for any conflict, mind you). •If or when _my_ team is not capable of the outright thuggery for which I’d normally cheer, I embrace the weasels and instigators I’d otherwise decry. I trivialize their worst habits, characterizing their unsportsmanlike behavior as gamesmanship, and their cheap shots as mere mischief. It goes without saying that I’ll deny all of this even when it is plain for all to see, and if pressed with irrefutable facts, will resort to vulgar name-calling. •With a solid helping of undiagnosed inferiority complex, I’ll defensively tout Boston as a world class city, just as enlightened, vast, vibrant, and welcoming as any other North American metropolis…and then immediately tell you you’re not welcome here. •So blindly confident am I that the success of Boston sports franchises over the last twenty years will never ebb, that I am keen to quip "ya, bro, they _hate_ us 'cuz they _ain’t_ us". *Note:* I select the pronoun _us_ to infer that, somehow, I directly contribute to these successes as an individual. So, yeah, I’m a Bruins fan, but I’m a rare one-I can take my lumps.
