Midnight - the first tune I ever heard The Shadows play live on stage (Liverpool Empire, April 1962, though of the four on the recording, only Hank was present. with Licorice on bass, Brian on drums and Peter Carter on rhythm guitar.

I love this album. I remember when my brother bought it in 1970. The sound of the guitars was so modern, not your usual one for older fans but as a teenager I was really fond of the arrangements and all these distorted effects. Even the organ was fabulous, thanks to Alan for that. At last but not least this particular song was my favorite for the fabulous intro !

It was recorded in November 1962, im sure its the rosewood red strat, Hank may added something, maybe compressor , that same day also GERONIMO was recorded

Excellent!!! Really good quality audio. Met you after a Shadows concert at Wolverhampton. Personally speaking I think the Shadows had the best base player going, they really needed you. Good luck and take care.

HANK B MARVIN is a superb guitarist Also Mark Knoffler.both have a very unique way of obtaining a rare exquisite melodious technique of setting sound.wid today's modern n sophisticated sound. Numerous lead guitarist cannot duplicate their sound.dey r my heroes ftom da 60s

Yep. Cliff could certainly find the musicians. He still can. The Shadows are legendary. Hank Marvin's style is still emulated by many guitarists around the world. With the co-musicianship of Bruce Welch, Brian Bennett and Jet Harris, Tony Mehan and Licorice Locking at different times, has made this group amazing for decades of music enthusiasts. May they live long! 🙂💗💗

Oh dear! Having been a fan of The Shadows from the beginning and have many of their albums 'Shades Of Rock' is by far and away the worst album they have ever released. Who on earth convinced them to produce such a mediocre album. So pleased 'normal service' was quickly restored.

One weekend morning in 1960, I was sitting by my parent's radiogram listening to the radio. I'd been playing guitar for about a year, but it wasn't obsessive. then Apache came on the radio. Hank's sound thrilled me to the depth of my soul (and still does) I spent most of the day by the radio Hoping to hear it again and it was played 3 or 4 more times. In 1961 they toured South Africa and I went to a matinee show, which was a life-changing experience. After 4 months of excruciatingly painful employment, I took the plunge, and have managed to support myself by playing and teaching music Thanks Mr. Marvin, respect.

Superb interpretation by the band of this great song. Hank, Brian and Alan are just great, only complaint is, I barely hear John Rostill on this piece. And it's a pity because not only John was a great player but it should have added more strength to the rythm section.

Great tune. The Shadows could also play jazz & swing like not many if any rock band could at the time.
