I’ve always dug the great Eddie Gladden-saw him play in New York many times in the 1970s-early 80s-he always swung hard. And let’s give some love to ALL the band members when we post these amazing videos, always, OK? Besides the great Eddie Gladden on drums, we’ve got: Tom Harrell, Steve Beskrone, Horace Silver, Eddie Gladden, Bob Berg, trumpet-Steve Beskrone, bass-Horace Silver, piano, leader, composer-and Bob Berg on tenor saxophone.

The house Drummer that you can see behind Max in this TV show was Emilio De Biase, a very talented Italian (Neapolitan) drummer, unfortunately passed away too young. He was a big friend of Tullio De Piscopo, one of the greatest Italian drummers.

Grazie, Luca!

Those look like A Zildjian: I can't see any hammering on the bottom. But it's tough to say for sure. They could also have been borrowed or loaned for the show, though, in which case they could be UFIP or Paiste, though unlikely.

Thanks for the video, everybody is playing beautiful, brings some nostalgia of those days and guys, several dead already, unfortunately. First time I heard the Hollywood drums was in the early 70´s with Art Blakey and the Giants of Jazz touring Europe (in a record published in Argentina). Eddie is a giant himself, much lesser known, but great player!

Immenso Max Roach. Rara apparizione in TV italiana.

@@federiconardi3134 so bene come funzionavano le Tronic.

I don't speak or write Italian, but I understand your comment (I studied French and Latin at school decades ago. Maybe I'll take Italian courses when I retire. I consider it a very lovely language). I don't know if anyone can be called the best or the most complete. I admire Joe Morello, Elvin Jones - or f.i. Terry Lyne Carrington, Vinnie Colaiuta or Brian Blade. But Max was always my favorite drummer, for whatever reason. I liked his strength, his determination, his musicality, his lyrical style. And his political convictions in the fight for equality. Many times I sang his song 'Mendacity' to myself after listening to politicians or business bosses. I saw him live in Germany four times. Each time it was an enlightenment. I saw him chatting happily with a big band drummer who was proud to play alongside with him. I've seen him getting enraged when a minor jazzman's name was written larger than his on a poster simply because 'Max Roach Double Quartet' was such a long name and they chose smaller letters to make it fit, or when his trumpeter slightly missed the cue. These were different aspects of his passionate personality. And he was truly able to convey the passion for rhythm and for music in general to his audience like no other.
