Kad pasaulis suprastų, rašau anglų kalba: “Freedom for Lithuania” was not some armed organization aiming to violently overthrow the Soviet communist system. We were knowledgeable and realistic, and rather aimed at using the first weak rays of freedom in PL to study and discuss how we can help gain more freedom for LT and PL people. That was 15 years before the Solidarity! Yes, we were staunchly anti-communist and in our underground dissident scholarly activities we discussed the LT Freedom Fighters struggle (incl. the HQ based in my ancestral farm in 1945-50). However, part of the teaching staff were very badly Soviet-indoctrinated during their (KGB sponsored?) stays in Vilnius. Thus, we were thrown out of Punsk high school and persecuted in various ways. Such a persecution of the underage students (I was 14-16) was a crime even in communist PL! However, we forgave our SB/KGB persecutors or teachers sponsored by them; we never dragged our persecutors before courts after PL regained freedom. Moreover, we are eternally grateful to one teacher (Ms Elena Vainiene) who tried to help us in conspiracy! Also, we are grateful to those who helped organize a LT language high school in PL. But we strongly protest the recent decision of Mr. Gabrielius Landsbergis, former Foreign Minister of LT, to convey the medal “For Exceptional Services to LT” to one of our persecutors. This action brings shame to free LT and goes counter the free PL law.
